Filed to story: The Regretful Billionaire: An Unpredicted Reunion
“Where is she? I need to see her.”
Eric wouldn’t believe Pete’s words without seeing Lynette with his eyes.He always assumed that Lynette would never return once she had a chance to escape, but the situation turned out differently from what he expected.
Pete knocked on Lynette’s door and turned on the video call.
“Looks like she’s asleep.”
A blanket was draped over the woman, blocking the full view.
Still, one could tell she was “Lynette” from the angle.
Eric was much relieved upon seeing that.
“Why is she asleep?”
“She’s probably in shock. It’s a bloody mess out there.”
While speaking, Pete quickly left the bedroom in case Eric spotted any irregularities.
One could tell that Eric was in a foul mood from his sour face.
“I’ll send extra security.Keep her in the mansion.”
“Roger that.”
Then, he asked, “Do you plan to come home soon?”
Eric fell into silence. He did think about rushing home.
“You don’t have to do that.I can hold down the fort.Danika Zellweger has suffered major losses, so she won’t attempt again any time soon.”
Pete didn’t want Eric to be home so soon, for the sooner Eric arrived at the mansion, the earlier he might find out about the fake Lynette.
Pete would prefer to keep his father away from home for a few days to buy time for Danika’s plan.
I Am Too Impatient
Finally, Eric was convinced to return after he was done with his business trip.
Still worried, he wanted Pete to report to him daily about Lynette.
Pete readily agreed to the request because it would be hard for Eric to spot the fake Lynette through phone calls.
At the same time, Danika and her entourage had boarded a private jet to Bardoff with a heavily disguised Lynette.
There, she met Graham again. He had been staring eagerly at the entrance.
When she showed up, he headed to her without hesitation.
“Nettie.”
“Graham.”
She bit her lips as she felt a wave of emotions washing over her.
Danika glanced at them and interrupted at a rather bad timing, “Take your seats now. We’re taking off soon. You’ll have plenty of time to chat later.”
Lynette and Graham looked sheepish.
They had forgotten about the existence of other people on the plane out of excitement.
Everyone went to their seats.
Lynette took her seat beside Graham.
She watched the plane ascend into the clouds, leaving behind Bayside City, which looked tinier from the air.
Suddenly, she was immersed in the sweet taste of freedom. She had finally escaped from the city that had been her prison for decades.
“Nettie, are you okay?”
Graham was worried about her because she looked a little upset. She was pulled back to reality and smiled at him.
“I’m fine.I’ve never been this fine before.”
She had mentally prepared herself to be Eric’s captive in this life, but she finally had the chance to leave. She might have laughed hysterically if she didn’t have to worry about being perceived as a madwoman. She was on cloud nine, but she remained rational.
“Danika, how did you convince Pete to help you? He has hated me forever.”
Lynette was caught off guard when Pete offered his help.
Danika looked at her.
“He’s not helping me.He’s helping himself.”
Lynette was perplexed, so Danika explained the plan to her.
There was nothing to hide anyway.
Once Danika put Eric behind bars, Lynette would file a divorce lawsuit, and he’d have no choice but to agree.
“Danika.”
Lynette felt bad after hearing Danika’s plan.
“I’m sorry.I owe you a lot, but you’re the one helping me instead.”
“You don’t owe me anything.I think I’ve been doing quite well over these years.”
Danika was unconcerned about Lynette’s guilt. She also had no attachment to her mother. She only searched for Lynette because Graham stubbornly wanted to do so.
Honestly speaking, she didn’t care about Lynette’s life in Bayside City at all.Her indifference upset Lynette.
“Danika, I…”
Graham took Lynette’s hand and shook his head.He whispered in her ear, “Don’t rush it.Take your time. She acted the same way when I took her home and slowly opened up to me.”
“Yeah.You’re right.I’m too impatient.”
She was rushing it because she was eager to hear Danika calling her “Mom.”
She understood that asking for an intimate relationship was too much to ask, especially when Danika had grown up without her.
“That’s true.I shouldn’t be impatient.”
Lynette calmed down and said to Danika, “Thank you, Danika.”
Danika glanced at her without a word.
You’re Really
Taking the Liberty Danika finally felt relieved when the plane touched down at Bardoff Airport.
Although Eustace reassured her throughout the trip, she still felt uneasy. It wasn’t until they were physically in Bardoff City that her worries eased.
Even if Eric showed up in Bardoff City, she had nothing to be scared of because he couldn’t bring Lynette away.
Graham and Lynette returned to Zellweger Castle, and Danika followed them home.It had been some time since she last visited.
She hadn’t lived there for long, but it was home to her.
The Zellweger family was home.
There, the staff and bodyguards gathered.
When Graham and Lynette arrived, the staff split into two lines and respectfully greeted them, “Mr.and Mrs.Zellweger.”
Graham was pleased with the welcome, but Lynette thought the title was unsuitable.
“Graham, tell them I’ll go by Madam Bell.I haven’t divorced Eric, so I can’t be Mrs.Zellweger.”
He pursed his lips, looking reluctant.
“Dad, Madam Bell is right,” Danika interjected.
She agreed that it was not the time for Lynette to go by Mrs.Zellweger.
Since she had shared her opinion, Graham had to agree to it and made the staff readdress Lynette.
Next, they went to the living room, but Lynette felt awkward because it was her first time visiting.
“Nettie, this will be your home now.You can change the arrangement and decor, pick your room, and plant flowers as you like,” he told her.
She looked cheerful, like a young lady. She was in her forties, but she had the same youthful smile from her twenties.
Danika left the living room for the backyard with Eustace to avoid interrupting her parents.
“Sorry to trouble you,” she thanked him as they walked side by side.He took her hand and pulled her closer.
