“Sure, but you’d better not bully her,” Eustace replied, earning a glare from his grandfather.

The old man snorted. “You should ask Danika if I have ever bullied her.”

When Danika first married Eustace and joined the Quinceys, he didn’t show any interest in her at all. At that time, Old Mr. Quincey fought for Danika in the family, giving her two peaceful years of living under the same roof.

Although the marriage failed, no one could deny that Old Mr. Quincey protected Danika well.

Anyway, that was only a cheeky remark from Eustace. He got up and headed to the kitchen soon. After he left, Old Mr. Quincey turned to Danika. “Danika, do you truly want to be with Eustace? You’re not saying yes to him just to shut him up, are you?”

He was concerned that Danika wasn’t truly in love with Eustace, which might lead to a short-lived relationship.

“Grandpa, don’t worry. I don’t play around with relationships. I’ve given it serious thought,” she answered.

He laughed merrily and patted the back of her hand. “Great! Good to hear that. I’m Eustace’s only living relative, and I’m worried he’d be alone once I’m gone. That’s why I wish that he has someone by his side. You can take care of him, or it can be the other way around, but at the very least, he won’t be lonely. I’m so relieved now that he has you.”

She sensed a sharp pang of pain in her heart. Staring at the old man whose hair had grayed, she comforted him, “Grandpa, you shouldn’t overthink. You will live a long life.”

“What’s good about living a long life? I’m happy and content as long as Eustace isn’t lonely.’ Even if he were to die at that moment, he’d be leaving with no regrets. Still, he hoped to make it to Eustace’s wedding.

Danika dropped the topic because it was too heavy. The discussion would bring her and Old Mr. Quincey’s mood down.

Old Mr. Quincey swiftly changed the topic and said, “Danika, actually, I owed you an apology all along.”

She was startled by the sudden confession. “Grandpa, why so?”

“I wanted Eustace to marry you, not because I was happy with you. I heard about your identity from your grandpa, and I thought by having Eustace marry you, the Quinceys would further prosper once you return to your roots in Bardoff City.” He sighed and added, “I was driven by personal desire in my efforts to get the two of you remarried. I wasn’t exactly doing it in your best interest like you might have believed.”

He felt more ashamed after confessing his intentions out loud. Using a young lady as a pawn to expand the influence of the Quinceys was a shameless move indeed.

It’s All in the Past Now

Danika was surprised when Old Mr. Quincey brought up the issue. She knew about his intention early on, but evidently, she didn’t care because she never bothered to bring it up anymore. Of course, she hated being a pawn in someone’s game, but she acknowledged that Old Mr. Quincey treated her well during her two-year marriage. Moreover, she was the one who gave the final nod to the marriage after Old Mr. Quincey and her grandpa discussed it. Therefore, she had no one to blame.

“Grandpa, why are you bringing it up? It’s all in the past now.” She smiled at him with a calm look on her face, much to his relief.

He insisted, “It doesn’t matter. I was in the wrong. I had wanted to find a chance to apologize, and I feel better now that I have done it.”

In reality, he insisted on apologizing to her because he feared Danika would hold a grudge against the Quinceys due to his selfish intentions from years ago.

“It’s all in the past,” she repeated. Yes, everything was in the past. Old Mr. Quincey might have been calculative, but that was years ago. She trusted that Eustace was honest with her.

“Yeah, you are right. It’s all in the past.” He nodded, feeling reassured. They chatted for a bit, and he learned that Eustace and Danika would visit Orchid Village. He then reminded Eustace to pay respects to Danika’s late grandfather at the village.

After lunch, Old Mr. Quincey retired to his room for a nap while Eustace brought Danika out for a stroll on the streets. It hadn’t been long since they left Parrington for Bardoff City. Parrington did not change much, and they felt a sense of familiarity when they walked on the streets.

“Do you have anywhere you want to check out?” he asked Danika.

She scanned her surroundings, but nothing came to mind. “Let’s have a simple stroll. It doesn’t take long to come here from Bardoff City. If I miss Parrington, I can always visit.”

“Sure,” he agreed, listening to everything she said.

The couple strolled aimlessly on the streets while chatting once in a while. They didn’t speak much, but they were comfortable in each other’s presence and got along perfectly.

When night arrived, Warren called them and said that Old Mr. Quincey wanted to know when they’d come home. After that, Eustace and Danika slowly made their way back to the Old Mansion.

“Where did you go?” Old Mr. Quincey asked with a smile when he saw the couple.

Danika went up to him and answered, “We went out for a walk on the streets, n

“True. There’s nothing much to see in Parrington, especially when both of you are locals. You left for Bardoff City, but that wasn’t too long ago. You wouldn’t miss Parrington just yet,” Old Mr. Quincey analyzed.

Danika nodded and agreed with what he said. She didn’t feel longing for Parrington, perhaps because she wasn’t away for long enough.

Meanwhile, Eustace was nowhere to be seen in the living room. He didn’t need his grandpa’s reminder— he had started preparing dinner in the kitchen.

There was a chef in the Old Mansion, but Old Mr. Quincey allowed the chef a day off, knowing that Eustace and Danika were visiting. He wanted Eustace to cook for everyone.

When he first tasted Eustace’s cooking during New Year’s in Bardoff City, he belatedly realized what he had missed. Eustace kept his culinary skills a secret; even Old Mr. Quincey wasn’t aware of it. Had the old man known, he would have made Eustace cook for him all the time.

On the other hand, Eustace was fine with doing all the work because he was willing to cook for his grandfather and Danika. The Old Mansion was filled with love and harmony. Danika chatted with Old Mr. Quincey in the living room as Eustace made dinner in the kitchen-it was the picture of a lovely family.

Faye’s Letter

The three of them were chatting over dinner at the dining table. Suddenly, Old Mr. Quincey thought of something and waved at Warren. He then whispered something to the butler when he leaned in. Warren left very quickly, but he appeared again before long.

Danika saw that the thing Warren brought over was a letter. That was quite unexpected.

“I suddenly remembered that we received a letter after you moved to Bardoff City. It’s from Faye.” He had not opened it and had no intention of giving it to Eustace either before this. He was mainly worried that it might affect Danika and Eustace’s relationship.

However, Old Mr. Quincey felt there was no need for him to be so concerned anymore. Their relationship was much better than he had expected.

Therefore, he decided to hand the letter to Eustace. After all, it was meant for him. He was Eustace’s grandfather, but he had no right to stop the letter from getting to him.

Danika felt like it was only yesterday that everything had happened when she heard Faye’s name.

Eustace was dazed for a moment as well. However, he still accepted the letter and opened it.

Danika was sitting across from Eustace. She was a little worried when she saw Eustace frown. Why did Faye write to Eustace all of a sudden? She would not be pulling some tricks again, would she?

Even though Eustace had explained that he only treated Faye like a sister, Danika still felt a little uncomfortable, no matter what.

It was most probably because she once thought that Faye was the reason Eustace did not go to her in the two years they were married.

Everything was clarified later on, but some things she had felt in her bones just could not be forgotten.

When Eustace put the letter down, Danika automatically asked, “What did she say?’

Eustace didn’t intend to hide anything, so he handed the letter to her. “She said she’s coming back.”

Danika was stunned. It was true that anything that could go wrong would go wrong. However, she was still able to keep calm. She accepted the latter from him and took a few glances at it.

The content of the letter was very simple. Faye simply asked if Eustace was doing well, then she said she was done with her studies abroad and was preparing to return.

Danika felt that Faye was quite shameless. She refused to believe Faye had not been paying attention to her and Eustace while abroad. Since she had been following their news, she should have known that Danika and Eustace had already gotten together. Still, she wrote him a letter. Could she have forgotten why she was sent away in the past?

If Eustace had not moved quickly back then, she would have sent Faye to jail no matter what. Danika had only let her off the hook out of respect for Eustace. Not only did Faye not restrain herself, she even dared to appear before her. Did she truly think that Danika could be easily bullied?

Danika returned the letter to Eustace and said in an unpleasant tone, “Whether she wants to come back or do something else doesn’t interest me at all. However, let me be clear—if she dares to do something to me again this time, I won’t let her go. Even if you send her abroad again, I’ll go after her and bring her back.”

Not only was that important, but if Eustace dared to do anything again, their relationship would certainly be affected.

Eustace could not help but laugh when he saw her saying that so seriously.” What are you thinking? I’ve already repaid all the kindness Anthony had shown me when I sent her abroad back then. Whether she comes back or not has nothing to do with me.’

He didn’t plan to reply to her letter. He didn’t care either.

Even if Anthony once saved his life, he had helped Faye plenty all these years. He felt he no longer owed Anthony anything anymore.

Therefore, if Faye dared to come back and offend Danika again, not only would he not help her, but he would even help Danika to put her in jail.

He would not let her ruin his relationship with Danika. Nobody would be allowed to ruin their relationship!

Who Would Believe That?

He was so straightforward that Danika didn’t know what to say for a moment. “Are you sure? She was the person your savior had asked you to take care of.”

“So what if he had saved my life? Do you think I’m—” Eustace stopped mid sentence. “In any case, I won’t sacrifice my lifetime of happiness for her.”

Danika knew what he wanted to say. He wanted to bring up the fact that she had promised to take care of Evan. She pursed her lips and said nothing anymore. In any case, Eustace better kept his word. Otherwise, she should not be blamed for showing no mercy.

Old Mr. Quincey glanced at the two of them. Seeing they didn’t get mad, he said satisfactorily, ‘That’s right. You should just talk it through if there are any issues. I’ve never liked Faye.”

He had always felt back then that Eustace had taken too much care of Faye. However, no matter what he said back then, Eustace wouldn’t listen.

Fortunately, Eustace had regained his senses at that moment. He was no longer as foolish as he was before.

“That shows that you have a sharper eye than a certain person, Grandpa,’ Danika said softly with a slight intention to mock.

Eustace was speechless. Refusing to admit defeat, he said, “I’ve never liked her. You’re clearly the one who kept thinking I have a thing for her.”

“That’s because your actions make me misunderstand.” At the bottom of it all, it was still Eustace’s fault.

Eustace moved his lips, wanting to defend himself. However, before he said anything, Old Mr. Quincey kicked him. “Is Danika wrong? I think she’s absolutely right.”

Eustace was speechless. He already lost his rights before Danika married him. If she really married him, would he still have any right to speak? Well, what could he do?

One of them was the person he was determined to marry, while the other was his grandfather, who raised him. He could not offend both of them. He could only spoil them. There was no other way.

Seeing Eustace at a loss for words, Danika could not help but chuckle secretly.” Alright, Who cares if she’s returning or not? We just have to live our lives well.”

Old Mr. Quincey hurriedly echoed, ‘Danika’s right. What’s important is to live our lives well.”

Eustace was speechless again as he thought, “Anything Danika says now would be right, wouldn’t it? Don’t you have your own opinion at all, Grandpa?’

After dinner, Eustace was called into the study by Old Mr. Quincey.

“Eustace, I’m warning you. If Faye truly returns, you’d better stay away from her. ” Old Mr. Quincey’s expression darkened. The smiling expression he had at the dining table earlier was long gone.

Eustace was very hurt. “Grandpa, am I that unreliable?”
