“Is there a problem?’ Danika didn’t think there was. Although they were in a relationship, it didn’t mean they had to live together.
Eustace was reluctant. “You could even stay in Evan’s villa. What’s wrong with moving in with me? It’s not like I’m going to make you share my bedroom. But of course, I’d be alright with it if you wanted to,” he added quickly.
Danika rolled her eyes at him. “Who would want to share a bedroom with you? You’re dreaming. I just think that even though we’re dating, we should each have our own spaces. We don’t have to live together.” It was said that distance made the heart grow fonder. They wouldn’t have that if they lived under the same roof.
Eustace disagreed. “I think it’s great. Plus, it’d help us determine if we’re suitable for each other. What do you think?”
Danika was silent. These were all excuses. Eustace just wanted to take advantage of her.
“Danika, we’re definitely marrying each other. It’s just that I’ll be able to take better care of you if we stay together. Otherwise, I’ll just keep on being neighbors with you.” If Danika moved back into that apartment, he’d move in next door.
No matter where Danika went, they wouldn’t be too far from each other.
Danika was hesitant. But then, she and Eustace had already had sex before. Why did she have to hesitate?
They were just going to live together. It wasn’t really a big deal. After all, they were already set to spend the rest of their lives together.
“Alright,’ Danika agreed.
Eustace smiled. He was obviously pleased. ‘We’ll go straight to the villa, then. We’ll move your things over slowly.”
“You can arrange it.” The decision was already made. Danika was not going to ponder whether it was the right one.
Of course, she was nervous. However, feelings like that wouldn’t affect her much.
She didn’t conform to social expectations. She didn’t care about what anyone said as long as she lived for herself.
Soon, the car reached the villa. Eustace had probably ordered for someone to come and keep it in order. The house was clean even though he was gone for a while. The floors were nicely warmed up, and a cozy feeling embraced Danika when she went in.
On top of that, there were groceries in the kitchen. It all looked planned.
Danika rolled her eyes. “You probably already decided I’d be moving in, didn’t you?”
Eustace smiled dryly, not denying her claim.
“The bedroom I prepared for you is on the third floor, next to mine. You can see if you like it. If you don’t, you can select another one.” Eustace had already gone into the kitchen. He looked like he was going to prepare dinner.
Danika couldn’t be of much help, so she went to the third floor.
1 Ached for You More
It was Danika’s first time on the third floor. Before, she had only gone to the study on the second floor for a while. She had not gone up to the third floor.
When she got up there, she realized that there were only two rooms on the floor. Besides Eustace’s, the rest seemed to be specially prepared for her.
She pushed the door open and went in. Although it was said to be just one room, it was huge. However, it was already filled.
A drawing room greeted her. Two plush pink couches sat in the room. It was an adorable sight. She walked further inside and found an especially big walk-in closet.
She wasn’t exaggerating at all. It was huge.
There used to be five rooms on the floor, and Eustace had turned them into only two rooms. He had probably converted all four rooms into one for her and kept his the same.
When Danika walked through the closet, her first thought was that this was definitely not done in one day.
The closet was not bare. Branded clothing and accessories were hung inside, and most of them were brands that Danika already owned.
The bed was in the style that Danika liked. Even the wallpaper, bedside cabinet, and curtains matched her preferred styles.
It was obvious that Eustace had put a lot of effort into it.
Danika had to admit that she was touched. However, she could sense that he had been planning it for a long time. She didn’t really feel repulsed by it, though. She picked out an outfit and went into the bathroom. She had not had a change of clothes since coming down from the airplane and going to the hospital.
When she got out of the bathroom, the smell of dinner had already drifted upward. She felt hungry at once. She went downstairs and stood at the kitchen doorway.
“When did you prepare the things upstairs?” Danika asked.
“When I moved in.” Truthfully speaking, every house of Eustace’s had a room prepared for Danika. He was prepared for her to move in at any time.
Danika was dubious when she heard that. It all felt rather weird. “Weren’t you angry when I moved into Evan’s villa? I thought you would be mad.”
She even thought that Eustace would give up on her.
“I was.” Eustace didn’t deny it. “But I ached for you more. You had no choice but to take care of Evan. The only thing I could do then was to try and let you leave him as soon as possible. At first, I wanted to get a doctor to treat him so you wouldn’t have to keep taking care of him. I didn’t expect it was all part of his elaborate schemes. It’s all very scary to think of now.”
Thank God he had discovered it in time. If he hadn’t, Danika would have been fooled by Evan and brought out of the country against her will.
When he brought up Evan’s scheme, Danika’s heart felt heavy. “Yeah. Who would have thought? I’m sorry, Eustace,” she said, looking at Eustace, who was chopping up some vegetables.
Eustace stopped and looked at her. “You don’t ever have to apologize to me, Danika. I’d rather hear you tell me that you love me.”
Danika was moved at first, but then when he said those words, the feeling vanished. “Hurry up with the cooking. I’m hungry.”
“Alright.” Eustace smiled. He wasn’t mad at all.
Danika didn’t leave. She stood in the kitchen doorway, watching him cook with fluid movements. Anyone might think he was a seasoned chef at a restaurant.
She suddenly thought that having someone like him around would be nice. It was better than eating at the hospital every day. That was the only advantage she could think of from having Eustace as her boyfriend.
Liar
It was a hearty dinner. Eustace even brought out a bottle of red wine. Danika had no idea what he was celebrating.
“Have a glass, Danika.” Eustace poured out some wine and smiled at her.
Danika felt that his smile was dubious. She looked at him warily and asked,” You’re not thinking of making me drunk, are you?’
Eustace didn’t quite know how to respond to that. “We haven’t really celebrated us getting together before.’ He couldn’t tell what went through Danika’s mind at times. Was he that sort of person?
Danika smiled dryly and tried to ease the awkwardness. “I was just joking. I know you’re not that type of guy.”
Eustace chuckled. He didn’t really push it. They clinked their glasses together and drank the wine.
Danika preferred eating since Eustace was pretty good at cooking. She wasn’t much of a drinker. She looked at Eustace. He seemed to have drunk quite a bit.
“Do you know how happy I am to finally be with you, Danika?” Eustace, who was getting tipsy, looked at Danika with love in his eyes.
Danika felt vulnerable under Eustace’s scorching gaze. “Maybe not…”
“You don’t know how afraid I was to lose you. I was so afraid you wouldn’t give me another chance, that we’d spent the rest of eternity just being neighbors.” He couldn’t imagine Danika with someone else. He felt that Danika’s happiness had to come from him.
Eustace was probably truly drunk. Sometimes he would say romantic things, but he would never use such sappy words.
However, Danika was touched. After all those twists and turns, she still decided to be with Eustace. To her, that was destiny. They were fated to be together.
When she saw that Eustace was still going to drink, she hurriedly stopped him. “Don’t drink anymore. You’re drunk.”
“Still, I am happy. Really happy.” Eustace rested against Danika, feeling satisfied with what their future might bring.
Danika let him keep on mumbling.
They arrived at the bar. Danika did not know why Paul would choose to meet there. Was it because it was his territory? Did he want to fight again?
She glanced at Paul and Gilbert, sitting in the private booth, and then at Marigold, who was behind a screen.
Danika didn’t want Marigold to be there. After all, Gilbert’s words were harsh. Marigold would be upset if she heard them. However, Paul insisted on bringing her over, saying he wanted her to face reality. Danika had no choice but to let him.
“Why don’t you two start by telling each other what you want,” Danika said. The silence couldn’t carry on forever. She and Eustace would be the unofficial judges for today.
Paul rolled his eyes. ‘Wants? Did she think this was a courtroom?’ he thought.
But once Eustace glared at him, Paul said indifferently, “It’s simple. He slept with my sister and got her pregnant, so he must take responsibility!”
“And what about you, Gilbert?’ Danika asked.
Gilbert was surprisingly cooperative. He had to respect Danika, after all.” Marigold is a grown adult. She should have known the consequences of setting me up. Hence, she doesn’t need me to be responsible for her. She should be responsible for herself.”
“Liar!’ Paul was upset.
Danika interrupted him. “And this is why you two are at odds with each other. The result will not change no matter how many times you talk it out.” Paul shrugged. Gilbert said nothing.
Taking the Money Danika and Eustace shared a glance. He nodded, indicating that he was alright with anything that she said.
“Everyone should just take a step back,” Danika said.
She looked at Paul.
“You should know that my brother will never take responsibility for Marigold.Hence, you should let it go.”
“What do you think?”
Paul was cold.
“Gilbert is your brother.Of course, you’d help him.”
“I couldn’t force him to do what he doesn’t want to do even if he wasn’t my brother,”
Danika retorted.
