Seeing him still standing there, Evan became a little impatient. “What are you still doing here?”

“Oh, okay. I’ll go prepare,” Howard said happily. He smiled so broadly that his happiness was about to spill out from the corner of his eyes.

Danika used to think that Howard was happy because Evan might have a chance to be cured, but now she couldn’t help but wonder why he was so happy about going abroad. He didn’t seem to be very worried about Evan’s injury.

After Howard left, Evan turned to Danika again. “Eat, Danika. Don’t starve yourself.”

Danika nodded and picked up a cup of fresh milk, but she’d lost her appetite. On the one hand, she’d already eaten at Eustace’s place; on the other, she had a lot on her mind and didn’t feel like eating.

“Is the food not to your liking?” Evan asked, noticing she wasn’t eating much and feeling a little worried.

“It’s not that. I’m just thinking about how to tell my brother and the others about going abroad. I’m not quite sure what to do about it,” Danika replied.

Evan understood immediately. Not only Danika, but he was also worried. Gilbert and Zack would definitely not agree to let her leave with him. He was worried that they might hold her back and not let her leave.

“Will they stop you from coming with me?” he asked.

“Don’t worry. I’ll convince them. It’ll just take some time,” Danika replied.

She still needed time to investigate, so she couldn’t leave in the next few days. She could only use Gilbert and Zack as an excuse.

“I understand,” Evan said. He was relieved that Danika wasn’t giving up on him.

The two of them chatted for a while, then Danika got up and left. She still had work, so Evan didn’t stop her. After she left, the smile on Evan’s face vanished instantly as he called Howard in.

“Boss, I’m busy making preparations for going abroad.” Howard was puzzled as to why Evan summoned him. Was there anything more important than that right now?

Evan’s face was humorless as he fixed his eyes on him. Howard felt a chill on his back and dared not joke around. “Boss, is there something wrong?”

“Just now, did Danika grab your arm that was injured?” Evan asked.

Howard nodded and couldn’t help but complain, “It hurt like hell.

Fortunately, I could endure it; otherwise, I would have cried out just now.” “Do you think she didn’t notice?” Evan snorted. With Danika’s observational skills, she could definitely sense that something was wrong with Howard. Howard was surprised and asked, “Boss, what do you mean by this?”

Secure Their Happy Ending

“I’m not sure, but I just think it’s strange that she suddenly grabbed you. I’m worried that she’s deliberately testing you.” Evan rubbed his temples, feeling extremely anxious about it.

Howard scratched his head, still not quite getting it. “Testing me? Testing me for what?*

“Testing whether you’re really injured!” Evan gave him a look, seriously doubting his intelligence.

Howard seemed to have come to a realization, but he still had doubts about what Evan said. “Why would she do that, though?”

“If she really is testing you, it means that Eustace must have told her something. Maybe Danika has found out about everything…” That was the worst possible situation for Evan. If Danika had really found out about everything, then her promise to go abroad with him earlier was hard to understand.

Howard returned to his senses from his shock, still unable to believe it.” How is that possible? If she knows everything, why didn’t she expose us? Why would she still agree to go abroad with us?”

“I’m not sure about that. I’m just suspicious of it,” Evan sighed. He couldn’t see through Danika anymore and couldn’t guess her true thoughts. Once there was doubt, Evan lost his confidence and felt everything was out of his control.

Seeing him like that, Howard felt annoyed. “So what do we do? I would tie her up and take her to our territory if it were me. She wouldn’t even have a chance to resist.”

“Shut up!” Evan shouted in anger. “I don’t want to hear you say that kind of thing.”

Danika was his chosen lover, so how could he treat her like that? Besides, even if they took her there, based on his understanding of Danika, she would never yield. Ultimately, they would both suffer, and that was not what he wanted.

“Boss…” Howard was at a loss. He’d always believed that women were a burden, but his boss evidently didn’t hold the same opinion.

“Go prepare first. Maybe I’m just overthinking it,” Evan said, sighing softly and hoping it was just his imagination.

Meanwhile, Danika was sitting in the doctor’s office holding Evan’s medical record, but she didn’t open it to look. Instead, she was wearing headphones, apparently listening to something. As Evan’s conversation on the other side ended, Danika took off her headphones.

Evan would never have thought that during the time Danika spent with him in his ward, she wasn’t just chatting with him, but she’d also installed a bug under his bed. Actually, she could have taken her time to investigate everything in a more orthodox way, but she couldn’t wait to learn the truth, so she opted for the less desirable method.

She never expected that the first conversation she overheard with the bug would be so devastating. It turned out that Eustace hadn’t lied to her- everything Evan did was indeed a lie. Danika looked at the medical record in front of her and wasn’t sure if there was any need for further investigation.

After a long time, she got up from her seat and went to find the professor of the hospital’s orthopedic department to confirm the findings again. But the result was destined to disappoint her.

Eustace was unaware of what Danika had done, but he believed that as long as she had doubts, she would find out the truth, and he didn’t need to worry about what would happen next. However, he wasn’t entirely happy because he knew Danika valued kinship, and Evan’s deception would undoubtedly hurt her deeply.

He sighed and looked at the design draft of a diamond ring on his desk. He hoped that he and Danika could finally have their happy ending after she found out the truth about Evan. He made a vow to himself that he would definitely achieve that!

Does It Still Matter?

When Gilbert and Zack learned that Danika was going abroad with Evan, they put aside their previous disagreements and went to see Danika together in a united stand.

“Danika, have you gone crazy? How could you agree to go abroad with Evan? ” Zack was struggling to control himself. He had half a mind to go and fight Evan over it.

Danika had never been away from them for too long since she was young. According to Evan, they didn’t know when they would come back. How could they bear to let her go with him?

Gilbert added, “Danika, I know you’re grateful to him for saving you. But sacrificing yourself just because of gratitude isn’t a wise move. Are you going to ruin yourself because of him?’

Danika looked at her two brothers and was moved. However, she didn’t tell them the truth. They might get too impulsive and alert Evan if she revealed everything to them at that point. She’d already discovered Evan’s true identity, and because she knew how dangerous he really was, she wouldn’t voluntarily put the people around her in danger.

“Gilbert, Zack, I understand what you mean, but I have made up my mind. Please don’t try to persuade me otherwise,” Danika said firmly, leaving Gilbert and Zack stunned.

Seeing how determined she was, they knew there was nothing they could do.

Even so, they did their best to dissuade Danika despite their exasperation at her decision. “Danika, think about it. Are you really going to leave like this? Are you really going to leave me and Gilbert behind?”

“Zack, I’ll come back. We’ll be back when Evan is cured,” Danika said.

Cured? Zack couldn’t help but almost let it slip that he felt Evan would never be cured in his lifetime. He looked at Gilbert, standing beside him silently, and nudged his arm. “Hey, it’s your turn to say something.”

“Danika, have you really made up your mind? Are you sure you won’t regret it?” Gilbert asked.

Danika nodded. “Don’t worry, Gilbert. I know what I’m doing.”

She couldn’t tell them she wouldn’t go abroad because it was all Evan’s scheme. All she could do was convince them not to worry about her.

Gilbert sighed and didn’t know what to say for a while. “I really regret bringing him back to the country right now.”

He thought Evan was better than Eustace and trusted him to take care of Danika. But now, it seemed that Eustace was better.

Zack immediately piled the blame on Gilbert when he heard that. “Yes, it was you! You brought that guy back! All this happened because of you!”

“Zack, stop it. Gilbert didn’t mean it. I don’t blame him,” Danika said unhappily.

“Danika, you’re just too kind,” Zack replied angrily.

Their attempts at dissuading Danika from going abroad went on for a while, but it was ultimately ineffective. In the end, they could only leave helplessly. However, they didn’t leave the villa. Instead, they came out of Danika’s room and went straight to Evan’s room to confront him.

Evan didn’t talk back to them but simply stated, “I didn’t force Danika. If she hadn’t been willing to go, we wouldn’t have come to this decision.”

Zack was infuriated by his words. It was obvious that he knew Danika’s personality and knew she wouldn’t refuse. That was why he made the unreasonable demand.

“How despicable! He’s way too shameless!” Zack cursed vehemently in his heart.

“Evan, did you agree to return to the country back then because I convinced you to?” Gilbert had started to doubt Evan’s initial intentions. It wasn’t he who convinced Evan, but rather Evan was already planning to return to the country and happened to meet him.

Evan looked up at him with a slight smile on his lips. “Does it still matter?”

Indeed, did that still matter now?

No matter the situation at the time, things had developed way beyond expectation, and the past didn’t seem to matter as much anymore.

When Did You Find Out?

Three days later, Danika and Evan stood at the entrance of Bardoff Airport. After listening in to Evan’s conversations with others for the past few days, Danika had already learned everything about the situation, but even so, she didn’t go back on her word and said she wouldn’t go abroad. Instead, she pretended to know nothing and still came to the airport with Evan.

However, it didn’t mean that she would really board the plane.

In the waiting lounge, half an hour before boarding, Evan wished fervently for time to pass quickly. Danika remained indifferent, and Evan couldn’t tell any emotions from her face, making him uneasy.

“Danika, don’t worry. Once we find Dr. Gaarder, I’ll cooperate with the treatment and try to recover as soon as possible, then we can return to the country,” Evan said.

Danika smiled lightly at his words. “Evan, you still wont tell me the truth even now?”

She always thought that Evan might not be so bad, and maybe he would come clean with her. But now, in half an hour, they would be on the plane, and everything would be too late. Danika was done giving him chances- she couldn’t continue to play along anymore.

“Danika…what do you mean?” Evan’s expression froze as he was taken aback, but it soon returned to normal. “Do you think I would deceive you?”

“I used to think you wouldn’t, but now…” Danika smiled, thinking what a fool she’d been to blindly believe him.

The sense of uneasiness grew stronger, and Evan realized that Danika had probably already found out about everything. “Danika, if I really deceived you one day, it would be because I love you too much.”

“Ha!” Danika couldn’t help but laugh sardonically. “Love? You kidnapped me, pretended to be injured from saving me, and tried to make me feel guilty so I would stay by your side for the rest of my life!”

Evan’s face turned horrifyingly pale. If Danika hadn’t known that his injuries were all fake, she would have been worried about him.

“Danika, who told you this? Was it Eustace?” Evan tried to keep his panic under control and added, ‘I know he doesn’t want you to take care of me, so he said something to make you doubt me. I hope you can trust me, Danika.”

“Do you think you still have any credibility now, Evan?” Danika used to trust him, but unfortunately, he didn’t cherish her trust.

Evan’s expression changed slightly. He wasn’t stupid, after all. He could tell that Danika must have known about everything and had solid evidence.

Otherwise, she wouldn’t refuse to listen to anything he had to say like this.
