Danika breathed a sigh of relief as the elevator doors closed.

The doors opened again on the third floor, and Danika was about to walk out when she realized the people outside the elevator were acting strange.

They had no intention of getting on the elevator but instead stared straight at her as if she were their prey.

Danika lowered her head, pretending not to have noticed them, and was about to leave when she realized she was being too naive.

Those people got on the elevator and blocked her path.

“Dr.Zellweger, come with us.”

With that, the person pressed the button for the basement.

Danika pursed her lips and prepared to quietly reach her hand into her pocket to make a phone call.

However, before she could do so, her hand was grabbed by one of the men.

“Dr.Zellweger, I advise you not to move around recklessly. The gun in my hand is not for show,” the man said, pointing the gun at her waist and preventing her from moving.

If it were a normal day, she would have taken action the moment the person appeared at the elevator door and would never have let herself be trapped there.

But now, she couldn’t even stand still, let alone resist.

On a normal day, she could take on five people at once, but with her condition now, she wasn’t even a match for one.

Danika thought she was fortunate to get into such a situation at a time like this.

Little did she know that the other party had deliberately chosen this opportunity to act.

Otherwise, how could they have succeeded so easily? In the corner of the hospital staircase, Derrick had just finished explaining everything to McKenna.

“McKenna, I really don’t have any feelings for her now.I only have eyes for you. Please believe me.”

“Really?”

McKenna was still doubtful, but her anger had subsided a lot.

“Yes.I helped her because I noticed she wasn’t feeling well; I wasn’t thinking of anything else,” Derrick swore earnestly.

Stop Trying to Gauge Me

After realizing she’d misunderstood Derrick, McKenna felt a bit embarrassed.

“Who knows what you were thinking? After all, you did like her before.”

Although McKenna said that, Derrick knew that she was no longer angry. She just couldn’t come to terms with it right now.

“It was my fault for not handling it properly, which led to your misunderstanding.I promise it won’t happen again next time,” Derrick said without blaming McKenna.

Hearing him say that, McKenna felt much better.

“So, does that mean you won’t take care of her if you see her sick the next time?”

Derrick felt awkward and only spoke up after a while, “I’ll quickly call other colleagues to take her downstairs together.”

He was sure that if he said he wouldn’t help Danika, McKenna would be unhappy with his answer as well because she would think he was heartless.

Sure enough, McKenna wasn’t angry anymore after hearing him say that.

“Well, that’s about right.”

“McKenna, are you not angry anymore?” Derrick asked, still a bit uneasy.

McKenna nodded, somewhat gingerly.

“I’ll trust you for now.But if I find out you’re lying to me…Well, you know what the consequences will be.”

Derrick immediately shook his head.

“Don’t worry.Such a thing won’t be happening.”

He didn’t have the courage to lie to McKenna. He valued his life far too much to do that.

McKenna turned around, walked out of the staircase, and made her way to the elevator.

Derrick quickly caught up and asked, “McKenna, where are you going?”

“I’m going downstairs to see how Danika is.You said she’s sick, right? She’s a coworker, after all.We should go take a look,” McKenna replied.

She didn’t have any ill intentions toward Danika.

In reality, she just didn’t want her boyfriend to have too much contact with other women, as it made her insecure.

After realizing she had misunderstood Danika, she felt guilty and wanted to go down and see if there was anything she could help with.

Derrick heard that and felt delighted.

“McKenna, you’re really kind.McKenna pouted and didn’t reply.

She silently thought she wasn’t kind at all—if she found out Derrick had any contact with Danika, she would definitely give him a beating! The two of them took the elevator and went downstairs.

They soon found their colleague who was in charge of handling colds and fevers that day, but they didn’t see Danika.

After asking around, they were told that Danika hadn’t been there.

Hearing that, Derrick and McKenna felt that something was off.

They had seen Danika take the elevator downstairs.

Could she have left on her own after going down? It didn’t seem likely in her condition.

Derrick could tell that Danika was quite ill, and if she’d left on her own, she might have passed out somewhere.

He wanted to look for her, but he didn’t dare say it out loud.

Stealing a glance at McKenna, he asked, “McKenna, what do you think is going on?”

“Stop trying to gauge my reaction.I know you want to go and look for her,”

McKenna said, clearly not fooled.

Based on Derrick’s expression just now, he was definitely worried about Danika.

However, she didn’t want to argue with him because even she found the situation peculiar.

Derrick felt embarrassed and decided not to say anything else, knowing that the more he said, the more misunderstandings he would cause.

He decided to give up and not get involved since Danika had nothing to do with him, but McKenna didn’t plan to just leave it at that.

She said, “Let’s go and ask Mr.Zeller.If Danika left, he would know.”

Mr.Zeller was the security guard downstairs.

He was familiar with every doctor and nurse in the hospital, so if Danika had left, he would have seen it.

“Okay.”

Derrick felt slightly relieved that she cared about Danika’s whereabouts.

At any rate, they should at least find out where Danika had gone.

Is Danika Kidnapped?

Half an hour later, McKenna and Derrick were in the hospital director s office.

“So, you mean Danika disappeared from the hospital?”

Gavin Porter, the hospital director, adjusted his glasses and looked at the two incredulously.

McKenna nodded and replied, “Yes, I saw her go to the third floor with my own eyes, but the people on the third floor said they never saw her.Furthermore, Mr.Zeller, who was downstairs, said he didn’t see Danika leaving.Isn’t this considered a disappearance?”

“Could she have left through the back door?” Gavin asked.

The hospital had a back door specifical:y for medical staff, after all.

“We went to check and asked the security there too, but they didn’t see her leave,” Derrick added.

Gavin frowned, thinking that the two of them seemed to be making a fuss over nothing.

Sensing what he was thinking, Derrick went on, “Danika’s phone is now unreachable, and her condition when I last saw her wasn’t good.No matter what, we need to find her first. What if something really happened?”

At this point, he hadn’t yet considered the possibility of Danika being taken away by someone. He was mainly worried that she’d fainted somewhere due to her illness.

Hearing him say that, Gavin was alarmed and took the matter seriously.

After all, Danika wasn’t any ordinary doctor.

“Let’s go to the surveillance room to take a look,” Gavin said.
