“Who knows? Some women are like that.Even if they don’t like the man, they won’t let him be with other women,”Alexandra sneered disdainfully.
She believed Danika to be that kind of woman.
After all, there were always quite a few men around Danika, constantly waiting for her to spare them a glance.
Danika didn’t want to waste her time talking to Alexandra, nor did she want to explain herself to the unreasonable woman.
She pointed at the door and said, “Think whatever you want.I don’t feel like talking to you.I’m very busy, so please leave, or I’ll call for security.”
Are You Okay?
“Ah! w Just as Danika finished speaking, a cup of hot coffee was splashed toward her in the next second, catching her off guard. She hadn’t anticipated it, so the coffee splashed all over her face, instantly blurring her vision. She wasn’t feeling well, to begin with, and Alexandra’s sudden act of rudeness further aggravated her condition of discomfort.Danika shot an icy glare at her attacker.
“Well, well.Such is the way a daughter of the York family carries herself.”
“What’s that supposed to mean? Are you threatening me with your family’s backing?”
Alexandra sneered, meeting Danika’s gaze squarely and unflinchingly. She then said, “Danika, don’t think you’re so great just because you’re the head of the Zellwegers.Let me tell you, even if you have a distinguished status, you still have to pay the price for your wrongdoing!”
Danika didn’t reply.
Instead, she took a tissue to wipe the coffee off of herself.
“Is that so? I’ll say the same right back at you.”
She would make Alexandra understand what it meant to pay the price for her action, but she didn’t know if Alexandra could handle paying that price.
Without saying another word, Danika took out her phone and called security.
Soon, security arrived and took Alexandra away.
Since she’d vented her anger, she didn’t continue to linger.
However, as she was leaving, she still looked at Danika resentfully.
“You just wait.Things won’t end well for you.”
Danika laughed.
Considering that she’d treated illnesses, saved lives, and had never done anything bad, she wondered what kind of bad ending would befall her.
After security took Alexandra away, Danika changed into a white coat and continued to treat patients.
However, her hair was still damp.
As the heat from the coffee dissipated, it was replaced with a piercing chill.
Since Danika hadn’t fully recovered from her illness yet, it was no different from rubbing salt in the wound.
Danika held out until she’d seen all the patients.
With the last patient gone, she could no longer bear it, so she went downstairs to find her colleague responsible for prescribing medication for fever and cold.
However, she could barely stand straight while waiting for the elevator before she could reach the ground floor.
“Are you okay?”
A voice sounded beside her, and Danika turned to see that it was Derrick.
Danika shook her head and replied, “Thank you, I’m fine.”
“You don’t look fine.”
Derrick saw her face turning red, and her overall condition seemed off.
Danika didn’t say anything and anxiously waited for the elevator.
The elevator hadn’t arrived, yet Danika was already struggling to stand as she leaned against the wall.
She almost fell, but Derrick rushed forward to support her.
“Are you running a fever?” he asked.
Danika nodded and tried to push him away.
“I’ll take you downstairs to get some medicine,” Derrick said, holding and supporting her firmly.
Although he and Danika had some unpleasantness before, that was all in the past.
Besides, they both had their own lives now.
It wouldn’t do to hold grudges forever.
Danika wanted to refuse, but she found it difficult to even speak at the moment.
The fever medicine she took last night seemed to have only helped a little, as her condition had not improved at all.
When the elevator finally arrived, Derrick helped her go in.
But to her surprise, McKenna was standing right inside.
She never expected to see this scene when the elevator doors opened.
McKenna became infuriated instantly.
Pointing at the two of them, she shouted, “Derrick! What are you doing?”
Her voice was loud, so the doctors and nurses who hadn’t noticed them before all turned their heads.
They looked at the three of them with a range of different expressions.
Many people in the hospital knew about the conflict between them, but they thought that Danika wasn’t interested in Derrick.
However, upon seeing how Derrick was holding Danika, they were quite surprised.
“Could something be going on between those two?” they wondered.
Come With Us
Right then, Danika had a massive headache and wasn’t in the mood to argue with them any longer. She shook off Derrick’s hand and said with some difficulty, “You guys talk.I’ll go downstairs first.”
She was afraid she would faint there and then if she continued to let it drag out any longer.
She went into the elevator, but McKenna didn’t intend to let her leave as she stared at Danika angrily and said, “Danika, what do you mean? You clearly rejected Derrick, but now you’re flirting with him.Do you want to have your cake and eat it too?”
“You’re overthinking things.I’m not interested in him,” Danika said, her head pounding.
Unfortunately, McKenna didn’t believe her.
“I’m overthinking things? Are you saying that I was mistaken?”
McKenna sneered and halted the elevator there.
Danika was at a loss for words.
She looked at Derrick standing outside the elevator and asked, “Can you guys go out and talk? I need to go downstairs urgently.”
“Danika!”
McKenna got even angrier upon being brushed off by her.She thought Danika was openly seducing Derrick in front of her and was so livid she could hit someone.
Derrick snapped out of his daze at last.
He was stunned and didn’t know how to react because when he saw McKenna inside the elevator, he thought he was done for.
McKenna was particularly possessive and would get angry if he talked to any woman for more than a few minutes.
Now that she saw him helping Danika, she was sure to make a big fuss.
He was distracted because he was at a loss about what to do.
When he heard Danika’s words, he finally returned to his senses.
“McKenna, you come out first and let Danika go downstairs.I’ll explain everything to you later.”
“No, I won’t! Why are you letting her go? Don’t tell me you’re still protecting her even now!””
McKenna refused vehemently.
Derrick was speechless, but Danika was even more so.
Noticing that more and more people were gathering around, he knew that this couldn’t go on.
He forcibly pulled McKenna out of the elevator and pressed the door close button for Danika before dragging her away.
“Derrick! Stop pulling me away!”
McKenna’s voice echoed through the hallway.
