“Why are you so good to me?”

Even though Danika hadn’t accepted Eustace and was still hesitant about being in a relationship with him, she couldn’t help but feel moved by Eustace’s kindness at that moment, even if she’d steeled her heart to not be swayed by emotions.

Feeling the warmth in his chest, Eustace lowered his head and looked at the person in his arms.

Then, he raised his arms and hugged her back tightly.

“You’re wrong.I haven’t been good to you at all.If I were good to you, I wouldn’t have hurt you so badly before.”

Eustace had always regretted not treating Danika well when she was his wife; even when she became his girlfriend, he still didn’t cherish her enough.

The insignificant amount of kindness now was nothing but futile compensation that came too little and too late.

To him, it was practically worthless.

“Let’s forget about the past.Actually, when I think about it, it’s not all your fault.”

Danika removed herself from his embrace.

In her heart, she understood that the past wasn’t entirely his fault.

They had gotten married in a hurry back then, so it was normal for Eustace to be resentful about being bound to her.

Although he never came to see her in person, he never did anything to harm her, either.

In fact, looking back now, Danika thought she was just unable to swallow her pride back then.

Eustace’s eyes brightened hearing her say that.

“Danika, are you saying that you forgive me for the foolish things I did before?”

“Yeah.”

Danika nodded.

Eustace was elated; he didn’t bother to suppress the wide, beaming smile that had appeared on his face automatically.

“Thank you,” he said.

“Come and have breakfast. You’ve done enough,” Danika replied, feeling a little embarrassed as she turned to leave the kitchen.

Eustace was still smiling, but he didn’t refuse.

He brought the steaming hot tortellini to the dining table and said, “Try it and let me know what you think Give me some feedback, and I’ll improve next time.”Danika tried one, and the corners of her eyes lifted up as she said with a slight smile, “It’s delicious. There’s nothing to improve.”

Eustace had a real talent for cooking.

Even though it was his first time making tortellini, Danika still thought it was very delicious.

In fact, it tasted even better than the ones sold in restaurants.

“If you like it, I can make it for you every morning.”

Eustace was naturally happy to receive recognition for his cooking.

Moreover, the person who acknowledged his cooking was Danika, so his happiness was multiplied several times over.

Upon hearing that, Danika quickly waved her hand to show that it would be too much of a hassle.

“There’s no need. It’ll be too troublesome, so you don’t have to do it.”

He was a busy man—she’d feel guilty if he wasted so much time making breakfast for her every day.

“It’s not troublesome as long as you like it.”

He looked at her intently.

Danika was taken aback. She cleared her throat to ease her racing heart.

There’s really no need.I’ll quickly tire of even the most delectable if I eat it every single day.”

“That’s true.Just let me know when you would like to have a taste of my cooking, and I’ll gladly cook for you.”

Eustace agreed, so he didn’t insist any further. Danika replied with a simple “okay” and said nothing else.

Feigning Ignorance Danika started working at the hospital as usual.

Although her condition was better, and she wasn’t as uncomfortable as the night before, she hadn’t fully recovered yet and still felt a little dizzy.

However, it didn’t affect her much, and she still insisted on going to work and consulting patients in the outpatient clinic.

“Next,” she called out to the waiting area.

Shortly after, someone pushed the door open and entered.

Danika, who was typing on her computer, didn’t immediately look up to see who it was.

When she finished and looked up at the patient across from her, she was a little surprised.

“Miss York?”

Danika was puzzled when she saw that the patient was Alexandra.

Alexandra was evidently displeased, and there was a hostile look in her eyes as she stared at Danika.

“Hello, Dr.Zellweger,” she greeted.

Danika sensed Alexandra’s unfriendliness and stared back at her for a few seconds.

Then, she asked, “What’s wrong?”

‘My heart,” Alexandra answered.

Danika frowned and leaned back in her chair.

She pointed to the door and said, “Walk out and turn left. The cardiology department is over there.”

“Really? But only you can treat my illness, Dr.Zellweger,” Alexandra replied.

She didn’t seem to have any intention of leaving and continued to sit there, looking at Danika with the same unfriendly expression.

Danika didn’t understand what was up with her.

She hadn’t contacted Christopher at all, so even if Alexandra wanted to hold someone accountable for her unhappy relationship with her boyfriend, she shouldn’t be looking for Danika.

Thinking of the other patients waiting to see her outside, Danika didn’t want to waste any time with Alexandra.

“If you have something to say, please get to the point.Don’t keep the other patients waiting.”

“Fine!”

Alexandra spat with a nod.

Then, she asked, “What did you say to Christopher?”

“What do you mean?”

Danika furrowed her brow, looking puzzled and not quite understanding the meaning behind Alexandra’s words.

“Are you feigning ignorance? After you left that day, Christopher broke up with me.Are you sure it had nothing to do with you?” Alexandra accused.

She’d been cracking her head over the past few days about why Christopher would suddenly break up with her.

Why didn’t he break up with her earlier if he didn’t like her? Why did he suddenly do it after meeting Danika? She believed it must have something to do with the woman.

“Christopher broke up with her?” Danika questioned internally.

She was also puzzled about the turn of events, but she quickly calmed down and said, “You’re overthinking it.On the day of Harvey’s funeral, I didn’t say a word to Christopher at all, even when I left.”

It was all thanks to Alexandra that Danika couldn’t offer her condolences to Christopher properly. She, of all people, should remember that.

“Don’t try to deceive me.You might have left at that time, but who knows? Maybe you’ve been in contact with him after that.”

Alexandra was adamant Danika had something to do with Christopher breaking up with her.

She thought for a moment and continued, “Plus, you met him on the day Mr.Spade passed away in the hospital. You must have said something to him before I showed up!”

“Do you insist on blaming me?”

Danika countered with an icy expression. She wasn’t a pushover who would let others trample all over her.

“Everyone in Bardoff City knows he used to be smitten by you! The moment you give him a hint and make him think he still has a chance with you, he’ll break up with me.”

Alexandra firmly believed that her speculation was reasonable.

Danika nearly gave a mocking laugh out of annoyance upon hearing her words.

She asked somewhat exasperatedly, “Why would you think I was hinting at him? I’m not interested in him at all.Why would I do that?”
