Chapter 424 – The Regretful Billionaire: An Unpredicted Reunion

It was just a confession and not a proposal. The two weren’t officially together yet, so

Max was jumping through hoops that day just to get Jade to agree to be his girlfriend.

“I don’t know.” Eustace contemplated it but couldn’t figure out what was so special about that particular day.

Danika felt that Eustace was sometimes smart but rather dumb at times. “Didn’t he just say it? Today is the first snow of this winter season. Don’t you think it’s romantic?”

“Hmm.Js it?” How was that romantic in any sense? He couldn’t comprehend the logic behind it; he just found the weather exceptionally cold.

If it were him, he would choose a warm place to confess. That way, Danika wouldn’t be blown around by the cold wind.

“Since you don’t think it’s romantic, why did you wake me up so early to see the snow?” Danika rolled her eyes at him. He’d obviously done it because he thought the scenery at that time was particularly beautiful, and watching the snow together with

Danika was romantic.

Eustace cleared his throat, feeling a little embarrassed. “Well, we both came from

Parrington and had never seen such a big snowfall. That was why I wanted you to see it first.”

As for the rest, he really didn’t think about it.

Moreover, he’d initially just intended for Danika to get up to see the snowfall with him.

As for what happened after that, it wasn’t in his plans at all.

Danika wanted to say something but thought of Eustace’s personality and felt she could understand him. After all, he wasn’t someone who spent a lot of time on the internet, so he naturally didn’t understand romantic gestures that were trending.

“Everyone has different opinions. Max thinks the first snowfall of winter is romantic, so he chooses to confess to Jade at this time,” Danika said.

Eustace nodded in agreement, whispering, “Should I have taken the opportunity to confess to you this morning?”

Danika glared at him. “Stop dreaming. I won’t agree even if you confessed anyway.”

It was easy for people to lose themselves in that situation. Danika didn’t dare to imagine what choice she would make if Eustace really confessed to her.

Fortunately, he didn’t confess earlier.

As they were talking, the waiter brought them hot coffee, and they sat by the window, watching Max buzzing around like a busy bee outside.

At some point, it started snowing heavily again, making the scene even more romantic. It looked like a scene right out of a drama. Following a ding, Danika saw

Max’s message telling her that he’d finished setting up and she could now call Jade.

Without any delay, she immediately dialed Jade’s number.

“Hello, Danika. What’s up?” Jade’s voice was calm. Danika could hear her shuffling files in the background; she was probably busy with work.

Danika glanced at Max standing outside before saying,” Jade, are you busy right now?”

“Not really. I’m not too busy,” Jade replied.

“Can you do me a favor?” Danika asked.

A little more than ten minutes later, Jade met Danika at the park entrance. She’d rushed over wearing a black down jacket.

“What do you need me to help you with? You’re being all mysterious about it,” Jade remarked as she got out of her car and wrapped herself in her jacket more tightly.

Max’s Confession

Danika pulled Jade further into the park and said as they walked, “Don’t be anxious.

You’ll find out soon enough.”

Soon, Jade, still puzzled, was pulled to the center of the park, and exquisite decorations came into her view. The vivid red roses and balloons stood out, especially in the snow.

Jade stopped in her tracks. She looked at Danika and saw she was smiling at her with a motherly expression. Jade felt a chill run down her spine.

Just as Danika thought she’d figured out what was going on, Jade suddenly asked,

“Are you preparing to hold an event here?”

“Jade…”

“This is quite a good idea. The first snow of the season, coupled with these decorations…This is perfect for a fashion show to launch our new product,” Jade analyzed. The next moment, she frowned and said, “However, the color of these flowers and our new product don’t match, and these red balloons make it seem like a wedding.”

As Jade started criticizing the venue, Danika was rendered speechless and felt helpless at how things were progressing.

Right then, music started to play.

While Danika was still dazed, Jade nodded approvingly as she praised, “Wow, there’s even music! You really had everything prepared.”

Danika decided not to explain anything and waited for Max to appear. She believed that Jade should be able to figure it out by then.

With the music playing, Max slowly walked toward Jade. Danika took it as her cue to head back to the cabin. Although the snow was beautiful, she’d come from the south after all, so she was still not used to such cold weather.

“What are you doing here?”

Seeing Max there, Jade asked without thinking, clearly befuddled.

Max smiled and asked her back, “What do you think?”

Jade looked around and saw Danika and Eustace in the cabin, as well as the decorations around her. Even if she was dense and slow to catch on, she could roughly guess what was happening at this point.

“Jade, although you have rejected me many times, I’ve never given up. Today, on the day of the first snow this winter, I still want to try and express my feelings to you.”

With that, Max started to pour his heart out.

“In fact, I never told you that I liked you the first time I laid eyes on you. At that time, I couldn’t wrap my head around how special you were to make me unable to forget you after just one look. Later, I learned about all the unfortunate things you’ve gone through, and my heart ached for all the hardships you endured. How I wished I was the first person to meet you! But that doesn’t matter. I think it’s not too late for me to appear in your life now. After all, well still have a lot of time in the future.”

He paused for a while before getting to the most important question. “Jade, be my girlfriend and let me take care of you, okay?”

Max finished speaking and took out a carefully prepared gift -it was not a ring but a necklace. He planned to save the ring for his proposal to Jade.

Jade’s eyes were slightly reddened. Although she’d always claimed she was not easily moved, she was still quite touched at that moment.

After divorcing Hayden, she never thought she would meet someone she liked again, nor did she ever think a person would love her so fervently. She was hesitant and timid, thinking it was all too good to be true.

But at that moment, when she saw the determination in Max’s eyes, she thought,

“There’s no harm in giving love another shot!”

“You know I’m a divorcee. Are you sure you don’t mind?” Jade finally found her voice after a while.

Max shook his head. “I only mind that I wasn’t the first to have met you.”

He would never have let her suffer so much if he’d been the first one to meet her.

“But I’m older than you…” Jade was still a little apprehensive.

“I never cared about that. It doesn’t matter to me,” Max stopped her. He really didn’t care about those trivial things. He was sure of his feelings for Jade, and his feelings for her were neither swayed nor affected by her age or the fact that she’d been divorced.

He Deserved It

In the small cabin, Danika and Eustace watched the scene outside unfold but couldn’t hear what Max and Jade said to each other. However, they both had their own thoughts upon witnessing the moment from afar.

Eustace was contemplating whether he should also arrange a grand confession ceremony like Max, but he was afraid that his relationship with Danika hadn’t reached that point yet. What if Danika rejected him?

He wasn’t afraid of the embarrassment he would inevitably suffer if that were to happen. His biggest fear was that Danika might keep her distance from him after she rejected him, and the progress they’d made thus far would come to a halt. That would have distressed him.

On the other hand, Danika was deeply moved by the scene. She felt that Jade was worthy of the effort that Max had put in. Although Jade wasn’t her sister by blood, she was as good as one. Danika had always been concerned about Jade’s lifelong happiness. If she got together with Max, she could finally have her happy ending.

Of course, the idea was that Max wouldn’t behave as recklessly as he did in

Parrington. Danika would not let him off the hook if he went back to his old habits!

Danika hadn’t thought about herself at that moment.

Although such a grand confession was very moving, she didn’t want it for herself. She preferred a simple and ordinary relationship. She deemed these grandiose gestures unnecessary. What mattered the most was the commitment of both parties to the relationship.

After Max and Jade exchanged a few more words, he finally put the necklace on

Jade’s neck.

He had succeeded!

Even though they were far away, Danika could feel the joy radiating from Max.

Soon, the two of them entered the cabin, with Max smiling brightly and Jade looking a little shy. Danika pulled her aside to give her some time to calm down.

“Danika, why didn’t you tell me earlier…” Jade whispered a complaint.

Danika looked at her embarrassed expression and asked, “If I’d told you that Max was going to confess to you here, would you still have come?”

Danika raised a very valid question. Although Jade had some feelings for Max, if she’d known earlier that this would happen, she probably wouldn’t have had the courage to come. Precisely because Danika knew Jade would react in such a way, she didn’t reveal anything to her. Now, it seemed she had made the right decision.

“Jade, did you say yes to him?” Danika could see the necklace nestled on Jade’s neck, but she still wanted to confirm it.

Jade nodded, her cheeks blushing slightly. “Yes, I agreed.” “That’s great, Jade. You’ll be happy in the future and even happier as time goes by.”
