Chapter 423 – The Regretful Billionaire: An Unpredicted Reunion

Filed to story: The Regretful Billionaire: An Unpredicted Reunion

In the end, Danika and Eustace emerged victorious, and the few children were dragged home by their parents and reluctantly went to school.

Danika, who had been a little cold, was now sweating on her back. It had been a long time since she’d played so enthusiastically.

When she was gasping for breath, Eustace looked at her and asked, “Was that fun?”

“Yeah, it was.” She’d never been in a snowball fight before and didn’t expect it to be so interesting. It was no wonder people seemed to enjoy it when she saw them doing it in videos she came across on the internet.

“Well…Shall we do it again tomorrow?” Eustace asked.

Danika shook her head instantly. “No! People will think we’re bullying the children.”

Indeed, they’d gone all out on those kids earlier. Thinking back about what she’d done, Danika felt somewhat guilty.

“Don’t worry too much. I think they were actually quite happy playing with us,” Eustace said as he stretched out a hand to brush the snow off Danika’s head.

They stood very close to each other. Perhaps because they’d exerted themselves more than they normally would, they were breathing heavily and could hear each other’s heartbeat.

The thumping of their heart didn’t weaken. On the contrary, it was getting stronger.

“Eustace…Mmph…”

Danika’s words were interrupted by Eustace’s sudden move to kiss her.

She wanted to push him away, but he held her hands tightly, so she could only let him have his way. The snow was still falling, landing on their heads. The shopkeeper couldn’t help but take out her phone and snap a picture of the scene before her.

As the sound of children chattering noisily came closer,

Eustace finally let go of her. It wasn’t because he was afraid of being seen, but because

Danika’s face was so red it looked like she was having a heat stroke. If he didn’t let go of her, she might be too embarrassed to continue living in this neighborhood should others see her canoodling with a man like this.

Help Max

“Eustace! When did I allow you to kiss me?” Danika scolded, gritting her teeth as she fumed. She wasn’t his girlfriend, so what right did he have to kiss her?

“Sorry. I couldn’t help myself,” Eustace apologized. But his face clearly showed he wasn’t sorry about it, and he seemed quite pleased that he’d done it.

He was still laughing, while Danika was angry and annoyed. She pushed him away and called him a jerk before heading upstairs to return to her apartment. As she walked away, Eustace was about to follow her, but the shopkeeper stopped him.

“Young man, how do you like this photo I took of you two?” The lady smiled and showed him the picture she had just taken. She was quite proud of it.

Eustace was momentarily stunned when he saw it, but then a smile spread across his face. “It’s beautiful.”

“I thought that sight just now was particularly stunning,” she said happily, glad she didn’t miss such a magical moment.

Eustace took out his phone and asked, somewhat embarrassed, “Could you send me that photo? 1-1 want to save it on my phone.”

“Of course.”

Afterward, Eustace received the photo from the shopkeeper and looked at it several times before leaving with a satisfied grin. However, because of that delay, he was unable to catch up to Danika. When he got upstairs, she’d already returned home, and he could only smile bitterly outside her closed door.

Inside her room, Danika changed out of her wet clothes that had been soaked by the snow. Even though some time had passed, her cheeks were still red.

“Jerk!” she muttered to herself.

Just as she was thinking of him, he texted her, “Do you want breakfast? I’m outside your door.”

Danika wanted to say no, but her growling stomach had other ideas. With that, she opened her door, as her starving body was craving food.

“Where did you buy the breakfast?” she asked.

“I had Vincent buy it for me.” Vincent had just delivered it when he got home, so it was still warm.

Danika rolled her eyes and couldn’t help but criticize him, “It’s so cold outside, yet you made Vincent go and buy breakfast for you without a care.”

“He seemed to be quite happy to do it.” After all, it was almost the end of the year, and he would receive a substantial bonus. So, why wouldn’t he be happy?

Danika didn’t continue chastising him. After all, as the CEO of a big company, he wouldn’t understand the everyday struggles of an average worker.

“Aren’t you going to work today?” Danika asked while eating her breakfast.

“I am. I’m employed at Quincey Group now, so of course, I have to clock in every day.”

Eustace meant it literally. He went there just to clock in and didn’t do anything else.

Danika took a bite of her waffle and said, “I heard that Zeke has already asked Yakov to take over the position that Xavier used to hold. It seems he intends for him to take over Quincey Group, is that right?”

“He may want to take over, but it will also depend on whether he has the ability to do so.”

Considering the current mess the Quinceys were in, Yakov would struggle to sort it out with his limited abilities. Moreover, Eustace wouldn’t make it easy for him.

“You always make extraordinary moves, Mr. Quincey,” Danika complimented. When Eustace said he wanted to take over the Quincey family, not even she believed it, let alone outsiders.

But what about now?

For now, it seemed like Zeke had no intention of handing over the Quincey family to

Eustace, but he would soon realize that he had no choice.

Eustace had indisputably won this round.

Hearing Danika’s compliment, Eustace was amused and rather pleased. “Why don’t you take a day off today?”

“Why?” She had no reason to take a day off out of the blue.

“To help Max,” Eustace replied, handing Danika his phone and showing her their chat records.

Danika read it and was stunned for a while, and she was unable to react for some time.

Take Your Word for It

When Danika and Eustace arrived at Bardoff Central Park, it was quiet and deserted. The ground was still covered with untouched snow.

Walking further inside, they found a group of people busy setting up the area. Danika saw people holding flowers and balloons. They looked busy preparing the decorations.

“Hey, you’re here.” Max appeared behind them with a faint smile on his lips. Danika turned around and immediately noticed that Max was wearing a black suit with a tie, which was quite rare for him. He looked much more energetic than usual.

“Are you really ready? What if Jade rejects you?” Danika was worried, as Jade had refused Max several times before, and she couldn’t tell if Jade was interested in him at all.

Max’s expression became serious as he said, “No matter what, I have to give it a try.

Don’t you think? I’ll let her make her choice on the first snowfall of this winter season.”

Max looked at the stage being built nearby, his expression expectant.

Danika didn’t comment further. She was quite surprised when she learned Max had decided to confess his feelings to Jade today. When she read Max’s message to Eustace, she was stunned for a long time. She hoped that Jade would accept him, as the past was in the past, and not everyone was a scoundrel like Hayden. At least Max seemed trustworthy now.

Of course, Danika had her own concerns. She looked at Max again sternly and said,

“Are you really serious about this? You should know what happened to Jade before. If she agrees to be with you, it means she’s willing to trust people again, but…”

If Max disappointed her again this time, Jade would probably never trust men again for the rest of her life.

“Don’t worry. Even though I may seem unreliable, this decision comes from my heart. I know what I want.” Although he used to be a playboy, it was only a disguise. In fact, he’d never felt anything for anyone until he met Jade. Even when he said he wanted to pursue Danika, it was just to challenge and go against Eustace. In reality, Danika wasn’t his type.

Hearing him say that, Danika felt a little relieved. “I’ll give you one chance, but if you ever do anything to hurt her, I won’t spare you,” she warned. Even if Jade forgave him, Danika would definitely make sure Max paid dearly for breaking her heart.

“No need to worry. That day will never come.” How could Max ever do something that would hurt Jade after all he’d done to win her heart?

Max changed the topic unexpectedly as he laughed and asked, “Based on what you just said, you think there’s a high possibility she’ll say yes to me, right?”

Danika pondered what he said for a moment and couldn’t come to a definite answer.

“Maybe. I haven’t been in contact with Jade recently, so I don’t know what she’s thinking.”

But Max had saved Jade before, so they should have made some progress in their relationship. Danika felt quite optimistic about his chances.

“Then I’ll take your word for it.” Max smiled, no longer as frivolous as before. “There’s a cabin over there. I’ve prepared some food. It’s cold outside, so go in there first.” Max pointed to a cabin not far away.

Danika nodded. It was indeed freezing outside, and she and Eustace couldn’t do much to help anyway.

“Okay.” Eustace and Danika made their way toward the cabin.

They’d barely reached the door when they heard Max shout behind them, “Oh, right.

Can you help me call Jade in half an hour and ask her to come over, Danika?” “Sure,”

Danika agreed.

Do Me a Favor

Stepping into the cabin, the warmth from the heater enveloped Danika, and the chill that lingered from when she was outdoors disappeared. She felt much more comfortable.

Outside, Max was still directing the workers to set up the venue. It was obvious that he was putting a lot of effort into it, paying attention to every detail. Danika never expected Max to make such a huge change. He must really like Jade, which caused him to become the man he is today.

“Say…” Eustace suddenly spoke, and Danika looked at him. “Why didn’t he choose to do it indoors? Isn’t it freezing outside?”

That was a remarkably good question. Danika didn’t hurry to give an answer. Instead, she asked him, “Then why do you think he chose today to confess to Jade?”
