Alexandra sneered.

Compared to Danika’s suitors, Christopher was from a family that was substandard at best, so how could he be qualified? Alexandra was well aware of that, not to mention

Christopher himself.

“Going around in circles on this matter is pointless,” Christopher declared. At this point, he’d already put down his cutlery and leaned back in his chair, expressionless.

He’d only put up with Alexandra for so long because he knew he was in the wrong.

During the time they were together, Alexandra treated him well, and he could feel her sincerity. That was why he was so patient with her.

“Yes, it’s meaningless.” Alexandra smiled bitterly.

“Christopher, since you will inevitably get married in the future, why can’t it be me? I’ll be a good wife and won’t disappoint you.” Even if Christopher didn’t like her, she could accept it.

Christopher looked at her and said, “I did consider that option before. But then I started wondering what my life would be like for the next few decades. I can’t possibly spend the rest of my life with someone I don’t like. What would be the point of my life if I did that?” he asked Alexandra, but he was also questioning himself.

He didn’t want to face someone he didn’t like every day when he came home, and he didn’t want to stay at the company because the people in his family didn’t like him doing otherwise.

“So, what now? Will you go find the person you like? Are you going to pursue Danika?”

Alexandra mentioned Danika again because, in her heart, the reason Christopher broke up with her was because of Danika.

Before they met Danika, they were doing well. But after running into Danika twice,

Christopher chose to break up with her. Alexandra refused to believe that their breakup had nothing to do with that woman.

Christopher shook his head and looked out the window.” I used to like her, but I won’t just like one person for the rest of my life. I’ll meet someone else that I like in the future.”

What he had to do was wait for the next person he liked to appear.

“I will meet someone, and so will you.” He withdrew his gaze and looked at Alexandra.

Alexandra pursed her lips and smiled bitterly. “Maybe.”

Though she said that, she knew how difficult it was to meet someone she liked. She would likely never meet someone like that again in her lifetime.

“What if you never come across someone you like? Will you reconsider me then?”

She suddenly looked at Christopher with hope in her eyes. If he said yes, she would wait for him.

Christopher knew what she meant and shook his head without hesitation. “I’d rather be alone than be with the wrong person.”

Alexandra was chilled to her core at his reply and couldn’t even force a smile anymore.

“Finish your meal and go home. The collaboration between the Spades and the Yorks will continue and won’t be affected. Thank you for everything.” In fact, he’d wanted to break things off with Alexandra a long time ago. He just didn’t have the chance to do so.

Now that Harvey had been laid to rest, he couldn’t continue delaying Alexandra any longer. So, he chose that day to clarify and end things with her.

“Okay.” Alexandra nodded, then lowered her head and ate her food. However, she couldn’t taste anything.

Tears streamed down her face, dripping onto her pasta. She seemed unaware of it and just continued eating.

Seeing her like that, Christopher felt a little sorry for her. He opened his mouth but quickly closed it again, choosing to remain silent.

It was better to suffer in the short term rather than prolong the torture. Crying it all out was better than bottling it all inside.

Listen to Me This Once

Early in the morning, Danika was awakened by the laughter of children in the neighborhood. She opened her eyes groggily, picked up her phone from the bedside, and saw that it was not yet 7 am. The children should be asleep now, so why were they making noise downstairs?

Before she could fully wake up, the doorbell rang. Danika struggled to get out of bed.

The moment she opened the door, she saw Eustace standing outside. She felt a little irritated at being awakened from her sleep prematurely. “Mr. Quincey, why are you at my door so early?”

She was puzzled. Eustace never came to look for her so early in the morning. “Did something bad happen?” Danika started making guesses blindly.

“Get dressed and come downstairs.” Observing Danika’s expression, Eustace guessed that she’d just woken up and probably didn’t know what was happening outside.

“I don’t want to go. I want to sleep a little longer.” Danika turned to go back to her room, but Eustace grabbed her wrist.

“Listen to me this once, Danika.” Eustace’s expression was serious, and he wasn’t joking.

This made Danika feel perturbed and worried. Had something really gone wrong?

Thinking of this, she grabbed her coat from the door and put it on, ready to go downstairs with him.

“This is too thin. Wear something thicker,” Eustace reminded her.

“Is it?” Danika wondered. She wore the same coat yesterday and didn’t feel cold at all.

But under Eustace’s gaze, she went back to her room and put on a down jacket before coming back out.

“Is this thick enough?” she asked.

“Yeah, let’s go.” Eustace smiled and nodded, taking her hand and leading her toward the elevator.

Danika was still puzzled. Based on Eustace’s expression, there probably wasn’t anything wrong. But if there wasn’t anything wrong, why did he wake her up so early and make her go downstairs with him?

“Eustace, what’s going on?” She couldn’t help but ask.

Eustace smiled and didn’t answer. “Don’t worry. You’ll know soon enough.”

Danika looked at him helplessly. Was it really necessary for him to be so secretive?

As the elevator dinged, they arrived on the first floor. Eustace grabbed Danika’s hand and led her out of the elevator. As soon as they stepped out, a cold wind blew, lifting

Danika’s hair.

The next second, the completely white sight astounded her, making her freeze in place—it was snowing.

The neighborhood was covered in white snow, and not far away, children were excitedly playing in the snow.

Snowflakes were still falling from the sky, leaving her in awe.

Danika grew up in Parrington, located in the south, and rarely had snow throughout the year. Although she’d seen snow in other cities, this experience was different.

“Isn’t it beautiful?” Eustace smiled as he asked. He was also from Parrington and rarely saw snow, so he was quite happy, especially because he could watch his first snowfall with Danika.

Danika nodded and walked toward the snowy ground. “The snow in the north comes so early.”

At this time, people in some cities in the south could still wear tee shirts or shirts with short sleeves, but the north had already started snowing in contrast.

“Stand still and don’t move.” Eustace suddenly demanded.

Danika turned to look at him and saw that he was holding his phone up in her direction.

He took several pictures and was very satisfied with the result. Then, he walked over and handed the phone to Danika. “It’s very beautiful.”

It was unclear whether he was referring to the snow or to Danika.

“Hey Danika, are you and your boyfriend up early to watch the snow?” The lady who owned the grocery store in the community had also woken up early. Seeing Eustace taking pictures of Danika, she smiled and greeted them.

Danika wanted to explain that they weren’t in a romantic relationship, but Eustace spoke first, “Ma’am, could you take a picture of us?”

“Sure,” the lady took the phone from Eustace, and with a few taps, she took several pictures of them together swiftly.

Little Brats

Eustace took his phone back from the lady, thanked her, and hurriedly looked at the photos on his phone. The corners of his mouth lifted up involuntarily. The more he looked at the photos, the more satisfied he was with the result.

Danika came over at some point and couldn’t help but comment disapprovingly, “This photo makes me look so fat.”

“Not at all. I think you look just right.” Eustace put away his phone. He made sure to save the photos well. He would ask Vincent to print them out and frame them later.

Danika glared at him, feeling a bit grumpy. “You should have told me beforehand so I could wear a nice outfit and take some nice photos. Now…”

She lowered her head and looked at herself. She was all bundled up in her down jacket and looked like a bear, so she decided to give up on that idea.

“You look beautiful in my eyes no matter what.” Eustace’s words were as sweet as honey, leaving Danika momentarily speechless.

“Ah!”

As the two were talking, a few children not far away were throwing snowballs at each other. One snowball happened to hit Danika’s head.

Seeing Danika being hit by the snowball, Eustace’s eyes darkened, and he glared at the children who were a stone’s throw away. “You little brats.”

“Forget it…” The words had barely come out of Danika’s mouth when she saw Eustace picking up snow from the ground, compressing it into a snowball, and hurling it at the children in one swift movement.

Danika was rendered speechless.

“Come on. Let’s fight him!” The children hit by Eustace’s snowball decided to gang up and fight him together.

The melee began instantly. Danika had been standing and watching at first, but Eustace somehow pulled her into the fray, and she started joining in the fight against the children.

“Ah! Ah! The adults are bullying us!” Although there were about three or four of them, they were no match for Danika and Eustace. The children could only resort to shouting to divert the attention of the two adults.

Unfortunately, the approach was of no use.
