Vincent had indeed thought that Eustace was behaving weirdly. He hadn’t planned on telling Danika this because it was Eustace’s personal business. But when he heard Danika also say that Eustace was behaving weirdly and was possibly deceived, he told her everything he knew.

Afterward, Danika called Old Mr. Quincey. He, too, said that something was off with Eustace.

As a confirmation, she called Paul.

Old Mr. Quincey was in Parrington, after all, and Eustace hadn’t contacted him after his return. The one he would keep in touch with was most probably Paul Wagner.

Paul didn’t treat her kindly. He said coldly, “Anything weird about him? What are you asking this for?”

“I just suspect he’s been deceived,” Danika said honestly. She believed that Paul was worried about Eustace, too.

Paul frowned when he heard her. “You’re not saying this just because he doesn’t like you anymore, are you?”

“That has nothing to do with it. Don’t you think he’s been behaving abnormally? If not, you can pretend that this call never happened. But if you do, and you’re refusing to tell me for personal reasons, you’re not thinking of Eustace as a friend and letting him be Manipulated.” She was placing the responsibility on him. Now, Paul had to tell her the truth regardless of whether he wanted to

I’m Obviously Going Against You

Blake sat next to Eustace in the restaurant, observing his eloquence, gentlemanly mannerisms, and calm and collected temperament as he talked to their client.

This was the man she had fallen in love with. This was who she wanted to be with for the rest of her life.

Thus, she willingly stood by his side when he was at his weakest. She believed that Eustace would one day take over the Quinceys.

Eustace’s phone vibrated. He paused and looked at the screen.

“Apologies. I need to take this.” He sounded apologetic as he got up with the phone in hand.

Blake watched him leave. Her cheery mood had turned sour. Zellweger…

The caller ID had only one name on it, but Blake could instantly guess it was Danika.

The rage in her heart sizzled. Eustace was her man. She had bet the entire Watkins family on him, so she couldn’t bear to lose him to Danika.

“You two go so well together, Miss Watkins,” their client said. He intended to suck up to her. Compared to the insignificant Eustace, he’d rather win the favor of Miss Watkins. Blake smiled in embarrassment. Although she was angered by Danika’s call, she didn’t show it on her face. “Thank you.”

“When did you get together?” The client was curious. He was trying to gauge whether Blake and Eustace shared a relationship. If they were, he would choose to work with Eustace as well. But if they weren’t, he would reconsider it. After all, everyone knew Eustace’s reappearance was to compete with the Quinceys for the position of the next heir. If one stood by Eustace’s side, it would mean they were going against the rest of the Quinceys.

If Eustace failed, the client would be dragged down as well.

The question made Blake’s eyes darken, but only for a second. “It’s been a while.”

The client relaxed. That was pretty much a confirmation of their relationship.

Eustace’s chances of success were strong with the Watkins by his side. Based on their conversation before, this man had excellent capabilities. At least, in this aspect, the other Quinceys could not compare to him.

As they spoke, Eustace accepted Danika’s phone call.

“What’s the matter?” He sounded cold and a little annoyed. But Danika didn’t care about that. She said, “Where are you? I need to talk to you.”

“I’m busy.” Eustace remained cold. He was indeed busy. He had to return to the table to talk business.

With his complete refusal, a twinge of sadness appeared in Danika’s heart. However, she insisted. “I really need to talk to you. It’s important.”

“Miss Zellweger, we are strictly business partners. Why do you think I’d talk to you?” He spoke emotionlessly.

Danika was stunned. She gritted her teeth. ‘If you don’t talk to me, I will terminate all of our partnerships.”‘

“Danika Zellweger!” Eustace was enraged. “Do you know what you’re talking about?” “I do. I’m obviously going against you, the future heir of the Quincey family. But I don’t care about that.” She had to see him. She already had her own reservations, so she had to see him now to confirm her beliefs.

This Better Be Serious

Eustace was quiet. Danika knew that he was furious, but she said, “Well? What’s it going to be?”

She had already made up her mind to see him even if he refused. No matter what, she just had to talk to him today.

“Fine. You win.” Danika was proved victorious. Eustace needed the Zellwegers’ help.

They arranged for a place to meet, and he hung up. He turned and walked back into the restaurant.

He sat in his original place and began talking with the client as if nothing had ever happened. Blake snuck glances at him, but nothing unusual could be seen on his face. She secretly sighed in relief.

Eustace would probably not fall in love with Danika. He had lost his memories. When it came to familiarity, Blake was the one most familiar with him.

Not long after, the deal was finalized. They all walked out of the restaurant together. Blake and Eustace said goodbye to the client. “You’re really amazing,” Blake couldn’t help praising Eustace.

Although Eustace’s authority didn’t compare to the other Quinceys, he was actually the most capable out of all of them. This was the man who was worthy of Blake. He wasn’t like the useless men who only relied on their status.

Eustace thanked her. “It’s late. You should head home.”

“Alright.” Blake nodded. She walked towards the parking lot but realized that Eustace hadn’t followed her. “What about you?” Her heart thumped in her chest. She had a bad feeling.

“I have some stuff to do. I won’t be sending you home,” he said. He didn’t say what he had to do.

Blake knew that it most certainly had something to do with the phone call that Danika had made. He was probably going to see her. Hatred brewed in her heart, but she didn’t express it. “Alright. Be careful and go home once you’re done. Don’t tire yourself out.”

She knew that Eustace didn’t like women who pestered him. He would feel repulsed if she asked him too many questions, which was why she didn’t do that.

Eustace’s car drove off. Blake hesitated for a moment before deciding to follow him. She wanted to see if Eustace was going to meet Danika.

Danika looked at the time once more in the cafe.

The Past Doesn’t Matter Now

Eustace’s frustrations were put to rest with a nice cup of coffee sliding down his stomach.

“Talk.”

Danika nodded and straightened her back. She stared straight into Eustace’s eyes when she said, “You’ve lost your memories, haven’t you?”

Eustace’s eyebrows raised, and anger flashed in his eyes.

“I’ve called Grandpa and Paul. I’ve deduced from their words that you have indeed lost your memories,” Danika continued before he could speak. She stared at him, attempting to detect any changes in his expression.

Surprisingly, he remained calm.

There was silence.

A few moments later, Danika broke the silence. “Why aren’t you answering my question?”

“I think you’re hilarious. I don’t know what to say,” Eustace sneered, his tone full of sarcasm. He leaned forward, placing his weight on the table. “Losing my memories? Have you watched too many movies, or are you just braindead? Why are you telling such jokes?”

“Jokes?” Danika asked. Eustace’s reaction was making her even more certain of it. “I thought it was hilarious, too, when I came to this conclusion. In fact, I couldn’t quite believe it. But then I thought about it and can now confirm that you have lost your memories. That’s why you haven’t returned to Parrington. You’re afraid of your grandfather finding out. You don’t want to keep in touch with the people from your past because you’re afraid of being found out.”

Eustace was avoiding even her.

Eustace was still silent. He wanted to keep things vague, but Danika was not giving him a chance. “If you haven’t lost your memories, you’ll be able to tell me where we first met and what happened on that day.”

She knew that even if Eustace had researched his past, he would not find out something as small as that. He wouldn’t know the answer if he lost his memories.

Eustace’s eyebrows were furrowed. He was a little angry. “Why should I prove anything to you? Who do you think I am?”

“I don’t need you to prove anything to me because I’ve already confirmed it. ” Danika wasn’t surprised that Eustace wouldn’t give her a straight answer. She already knew it.

She took a deep breath and organized her thoughts before speaking again. “I didn’t come looking for you to prove anything. I just wanted to tell you the truth. You’ve lost your memories, so you believe everything that Blake tells you. You think that your feelings for me were just a psychological issue. But is that really so? To be honest, it doesn’t matter. What matters is that you can’t be deceived by that woman. She said those things to you when you had amnesia-“

“Are you done?” Before Danika could finish, Eustace cut her off with a sneer.” Do you just mean to say that I really liked you? And that it’s not because of a mental problem?”

“I just want-“

“It doesn’t matter if I really liked you. What’s important is that I really, really do not like you right now.” Especially when he was trying so hard not to let anyone find out about his amnesia. Yet, Danika had exposed his secrets. He wasn’t happy.

Danika instantly swallowed all the words she wanted to say. She looked at Eustace, believing that what he said was true.

A moment later, she laughed. “That’s right. Whatever happened in the past doesn’t matter anymore.”

Eustace didn’t care about whether he liked her or not.

You’re Behind This, Aren’t You?

“You can go ahead being deceived by her if you like. It has nothing to do with me. I just want to tell you to visit your grandfather in Parrington if you can. Don’t you know that he’s in the hospital right now?” Danika had given up on whether he liked her or not.

Eustace’s face darkened. ‘I don’t need you to remind me of it.”

“If you don’t, you’d have gone back to Parrington. Do you really think he would care if you have amnesia?” Danika couldn’t figure him out. If he honestly lost his memories, Old Mr. Quincey would only help him. He wouldn’t hurt him.

Danika grew frustrated seeing Eustace like that. She said, ‘No one really cares that you’ve lost your memories. Don’t keep thinking that everyone is out to get you. They’d have to be powerful enough for that. You’ve lost your memories, not your emotions, Eustace. I don’t want you to do anything you might regret.”

She had given Old Mr. Quincey a call before. She could tell that he truly missed Eustace. On top of that, he sounded weak. It was obvious that he wasn’t getting any better in the hospital.

Danika got up once she was done speaking. She added, “Blake is a psychologist. I hope that you’ll analyze everything that she says. Don’t let her misguide you.”

After that, she left. She didn’t care if Eustace took her words to heart.

Eustace didn’t leave. He sat in the coffee shop, drinking another cup of coffee. He seemed to have woken up from a spell.

He hadn’t just lost his memories. He had lost all of his feelings toward his loved ones. He didn’t think much of it before, but now, he felt uncomfortable. He knew that Old Mr. Quincey was an extremely important person to him, but because of his amnesia, he couldn’t figure out exactly how much. He didn’t have that sort of empathy. Something like his grandfather lying in the hospital wouldn’t affect him much.

However, Danika’s words made him realize that he was wrong. Perhaps he had to find his memories back.
