Filed to story: The Regretful Billionaire: An Unpredicted Reunion
Danika knew something was up the night Rowena snuck off with someone for a secret meeting. Once Danika learned of the person’s identity, she knew at once that Rowena was planning something.
Rowena probably didn’t know that she had long been targeted by Danika. The moment she did anything to harm the Zellwegers, Danika would instantly be able to use something against her.
But before Danika could find out Rowena’s secret, Randy found her.
“Danika.” Randy looked at the beautiful woman before him, his eyebrows furrowing.
Danika was a little surprised to see him. “What’s up, Randy?”
Since leaving Zellweger Inc, Danika had been looking for a job at a hospital. What she truly wanted was to be a doctor.
“I have something to ask you,” Randy said. “The Glasses have been losing quite a few projects lately, and our research shows that it might have something to do with Zellweger Inc.”
He stared hard at Danika as if he could see through her. However, reality disappointed him. Danika honestly had no idea about it.
She knew that Graham and James wanted to take down the Glasses, but she didn’t know the concrete plan. Thus, when Randy expressed his suspicion, she looked bewildered. “Is that so? It could be a misunderstanding. The Zellwegers and Glasses are still working together.”
The project that Randy had approached her with was still in motion. She didn’t know when the Glasses would reveal that the plot of land was unsuited for the project.
“I think it’s unlikely, too,’ Randy said. However, his father insisted it had something to do with the Zellwegers. That was why he came to hear Danika’s opinion.
Danika smiled at him and said, “That’s great of you to think that. We work together, and we’re relatives. The Zellwegers would never target the Glasses. Don’t worry.” Randy frowned. He still thought that there was something off with Danika.” But the
Glasses have been unlucky lately. There must be someone pulling strings behind the scenes.”
Danika looked at him and replied carelessly, “Could it be one of the other elites? It must hurt for some people that Jolene is being married off to the Windsors.”
“The Britts?’ Randy instantly thought of the Britts. Jolene was supposed to marry Brandon, after all.
But what did that have to do with the Glasses? Shouldn’t the Britts be messing with the Zellwegers instead?
As if guessing his thoughts, Danika said, “The Britts won’t have the balls to target the Zellwegers.”
The Britts were afraid of the Zellwegers but not so much of the Glasses. After all, the Glasses did not compare to the Zellwegers.
Randy thought it was likely.
Seeing that he had believed her, Danika thought that he was stupid. However, she didn’t let it show. “Is there anything else you’d like to talk about? If not, I’m going to work.’
“What are you being so anxious for? Why don’t we have a meal together?” Randy suddenly smiled at her and even attempted to lay an arm around Danika’s shoulder.
She dodged him, disgust flashing through her eyes. “I’m busy. I’m going to leave now.”
Before he could say anything else, Danika got up to leave.
Randy watched her leave, his gaze turning dark. “Quit pretending. Let’s see how cocky you are when the Zellwegers are destroyed.”
When that time came, he would destroy her completely. He would make her kneel to him and beg.
“What are you looking at?” Not far off, Blake went to Eustace’s side and followed his gaze. She saw Randy’s grim expression.
What Does That Have to Do with You?
Blake raised an eyebrow. She walked toward Randy.
“Mr. Glass,” she said. Although she disliked Randy, he was still the successor of the Glasses. She could use him to her advantage.
Randy immediately cleared up the expression on his face when he heard her. When he saw that it was Blake, he smiled. “Miss Watkins. What a coincidence that you’re here.”
“Yes. Eustace and I are here on some business,” she said, looking at Eustace. Randy only now realized that Eustace was there, too. He deflated a little. “Oh, it’s Mr. Quincey.”
Eustace was the director of Quincey Group. Everyone called him Mr. Quincey to not embarrass him since he was part of the Ten Elites. However, he was only a pawn to the Quinceys. He would basically never reach the inner workings of the company.
“Why don’t we have a meal together since we’ve bumped into each other?” Randy looked at Blake with a smile. He directed his question to her and couldn’t care less about Eustace.
Blake hesitated. She looked at Eustace, who was walking over. “I have other plans,” Eustace said.
His words were simple enough. He didn’t care if Blake was going to eat with Randy.
He wasn’t going to join them either way.
Blake stiffened. In everyone else’s eyes, Eustace depended on her to get where he was. However, Blake knew that Eustace never really thought much of her. He didn’t care about her feelings, even when they were in public.
“You can go do your own stuff.” Randy waved at him. It would be great if Eustace didn’t tag along, anyway. Randy would be able to grow closer to Blake.
Eustace’s face darkened. He said nothing, but he didn’t leave. Blake smiled. “I can’t eat with you today, Randy. Maybe another day.”
Randy looked displeased. He knew Blake wouldn’t go because of Eustace, so he vented his anger on him. “You used to like Danika so much, Mr. Quincey. And now you’re abandoning Blake once you’re done with her. That’s not very nice of you, is it?”
Eustace frowned. “What does that have to do with you?”
Randy was angered by his words. Where had Eustace gotten the balls to go against him? Was he honestly thinking of himself as a Quincey?
“You and Danika really do share the same temper,” Randy said sarcastically. He didn’t know where they got their boldness from.
Eustace said nothing, but his displeasure was shown clearly on his face. Blake didn’t want them to fight, so she said, “We’ll be going now, Randy. I’ll treat you to a meal some other day.”
She pulled Eustace away.
Watching them leave, Randy’s expression darkened. “These women are blind.”
First, there was Danika, and now, Blake. Why would they fall in love with someone who had nothing?
In Randy’s eyes, Eustace was a nobody. He might be a Quincey, but everyone knew that the Quinceys didn’t even consider him to be a part of their family.
Eustace’s face remained grim even as they left in the car. He was obviously unhappy.
“I know you don’t like people like him, but we’re at a critical stage. We don’t need to anger people like that.” They were better off insulting someone more forgiving than Randy.
Eustace murmured in response, but it went unnoticed. He could dislike Randy, but he couldn’t cross the line.
“My parents have invited us to a meal. Are you coming?” Blake asked nervously. She couldn’t look him in the eye.
Eustace frowned and looked at her. “We’re only pretending. Didn’t you tell them that?”
The Interview
Everyone was spreading rumors about them being together. Since both Eustace and Blake had not cleared anything up, it was considered a confirmation.
They were in agreement. Blake would help him inherit the Quinceys if Eustace agreed to be with her.
“How can I tell them about something like this?’ Blake shook her head. Her parents would rage at her if she did.
Moreover, Eustace might think that what they had was fake, but Blake didn’t share the same sentiment.
She noticed he was unhappy and said, ‘It’s fine if you don’t want to go. We’re just going to have a simple meal. I told my father you wished to be the Quinceys’ next heir. He thinks favorably of you. He’s probably inviting you over to talk about this.”
Eustace did not want to join the Watkins because he did not think he and Blake were a couple. At most, they were collaborators.
But Blake was a psychologist. She saw through Eustace’s heart clearly. She knew that what he wanted right now was to inherit the Quinceys. Hence, when she brought the matter up, Eustace didn’t seem as repulsed.
“We’ll go, then.” Eustace agreed to it.
Blake smiled at once. She knew that Eustace would agree as long as the Quinceys were involved.
It didn’t matter if what they had between them was fake. She would make them a real couple one day.
It wasn’t because of her parents’ support that she wanted to help Eustace win the position as the Quinceys’ next heir. It was because she didn’t want any other woman to be with him. She wanted to hold him tightly in her grasp so that no one else would be able to have him.
Danika walked out of the director’s office in Bardoff Hospital.
She had plenty of hands-on experience and had published many journals. On top of that, she was a famous teacher. Hence, her interview went very well.
She believed that the letter of employment would arrive in a few days’ time. When that happened, she would be able to return to the operating room to do what she loved most.
“Danika?”
A man’s voice floated over. Danika looked at him, surprised. ‘Derrick.”
They met at Parrington Medical University’s anniversary celebration. When Derrick had learned that she worked in Parrington Hospital, he had mocked her. But then, when he knew where she had received her tutelage, he ceased mocking her.
“Why are you here?” Derrick was surprised. He had heard that Danika had resigned from Parrington Hospital, but he didn’t know she was in Bardoff City. On top of that, regular citizens didn’t know about Danika’s identity as the Zellwegers’ daughter. People would not really know unless they paid attention to the elites. As for doctors like him who worked day and night and had to write journals even in their free time, they had no time to pay attention to such news.
Danika smiled and said, “I resigned from Parrington Hospital, and I’m preparing to work here.”
There wasn’t much to hide from him. Derrick would find out about it sooner or later.
Thank goodness they specialized in different areas. Danika didn’t want to be Derrick’s colleague.
“Is that…true?’ Shock flashed through Derrick’s eyes, along with a trace of jealousy.
He knew that with Danika’s identity and experience, getting a job there would be a breeze. But he had overcome several obstacles and challenges to get to where he was. Naturally, he felt upset.
Danika nodded. She saw the hatred in his eyes and felt puzzled. She hadn’t wronged him.
“You’re so brilliant. You’ve probably already passed the interview,” Derrick said cautiously.
“I’m not certain. It might take a few days for me to know.” Although Danika didn’t think it would be hard to get in, she didn’t want to discuss things that were not yet confirmed
