James was set up, so how could he be held accountable for something he had no hand in? “It’s true that I don’t, but I heard that the Zellwegers and the Windsors have already made the announcement. They will be engaged on Sunday,”

Eustace said with a cold smirk. He failed to understand what Danika saw in James.

What use is a man who could be so easily done in by two women? Danika was surprised to hear that.

She quickly checked her phone.

Sure enough, she saw that the Zellwegers had deleted their previous engagement announcement with the Britts and changed it to the Windsors.

It seemed that the two had reached an agreement.

She wasn’t shocked at this outcome.

When she left James’ villa, she’d already guessed it.

But even if it came as no surprise, it was still hard for her to accept that things went down this way.

Jolene and her mother had used utterly despicable means, and they succeeded.

It was ridiculous.

The more Danika thought about it, the angrier she was.

She felt that the two slaps she’d given Jolene before were too meager compared to the awful act she’d done.

Danika scolded herself for not slapping that bitch a few more times.

Noticing her getting angry over the matter, Eustace felt a little irritated.

“Just accept it.Even if you’re not happy about it, they’ll still be engaged.”

“What’s it to you if they’re getting engaged? Why do you care so much?”

Danika retorted, feeling like Eustace was asking for a beating.

“What’s it to you, then? Aren’t you super concerned about it as well?” Eustace fired back.

“It’s different for me,” Danika said.

“How is it different for you?” Eustace pressed.

It was as if he was anxious to find out about something.

Any Consolation Is Meaningless

Danika wanted to say that James was her senior and was like family to her.But when she was about to say that, she suddenly noticed Eustace’s abnormal interest in her affairs. She stared at him suspiciously and said, “Mr.Quincey, aren’t you getting too involved in my business?”

“Do you really think I care? I was just worried our collaboration would be affected if you were in such a state.Otherwise, I wouldn’t have bothered.”

Eustace sneered, his eyes full of disdain.

“Is that so?” Danika responded.

She couldn’t quite shake off the feeling that something was off.

To be exact, something had felt off about Eustace ever since he had called her.He hadn’t taken the initiative to see her since he went missing.

Today, he called her and even handed her information about the Glasses.

The reason behind his actions didn’t seem as simple as he made thern out to be.

“What else do you think it could be? You don’t seriously think I care about you, do you?” He spoke sarcastically with contempt in his eyes.

Danika had suspicions of that being the case, but now, that conjecture was thoroughly overturned.

“That would be the best. You and I aren’t close friends or confidants, so you shouldn’t ask me about my business in the future.”

Eustace wasn’t the only one capable of blunt and insensitive remarks.

Two could play that game.

Eustace was annoyed and felt that he was wasting his breath.

“Rest assured that I’m not interested in your affairs.”

“But I’m quite interested in your business, though.”

Danika suddenly started smiling.

“What’s going on between you and Miss Watkins?” Eustace’s expression stiffened.

He couldn’t quite catch up to Danika’s tone, which changed all of a sudden.

“What does it have to do with you?”

“Nothing.I’m just curious.”

Danika smiled, not caring if Eustace answered her question or not.She was just asking casually.

However, she was indeed a little curious.

How did the young lady of the Watkins get involved with Eustace? The Watkins was much more influential than the Zellwegers—they were basically second only to the Quinceys.

Why would such a person support Eustace? What were her motives for doing so? Eustace gave her an unamused glare and said coldly, “Don’t be nosy. We’re just business partners. You don’t need to know things outside of our collaboration.”

Danika acknowledged what he said perfunctorily and grumbled that he was the one who started the topic first.

“I’ll be leaving,” she announced.

She didn’t want to waste her breath talking to him when they didn’t have a common ground.

This time, Eustace didn’t stop her.

He realized he’d been paying too much attention to her, which made him feel a little annoyed. He’d just done a therapy session with Blake in the morning, but he couldn’t control his emotions when he saw Danika again.

At that moment, Eustace couldn’t help but wonder if his fondness for Danika was really just a psychological problem or if he actually liked her.He quickly dismissed the thought as soon as it arose, thinking it was impossible. He never looked back and wouldn’t get hung up on a woman.

With that in mind, he got up and left.

He had to keep himself busy, so he wouldn’t have time to think too much.

After Danika left Eustace’s villa, she walked past James’ house and resisted the urge to knock on his door. She stared at the door fora while and left.

At this time, any words of consolation were meaningless for him.

Perhaps he didn’t want any comfort either.

As she got into her car, Danika suddenly remembered that Eustace had said he’d merged his company with Paul’s.

Did this mean Paul had also come to Bardoff City?

“No! I have to warn Stephanie.Otherwise, Paul might bother her again,” Danika thought.

Unbeknownst to Danika, Stephanie was sitting right across from Paul when she answered Danika’s call. The atmosphere was stifling.

Shouldn’t I Hate You?

“I’ll be careful.Okay.Let’s have dinner together in a few more days.Stephanie held her phone and perfunctorily responded to Danika, but she couldn’t help but glance nervously at Paul sitting opposite her.She chose not to tell Danika about Paul being right in front of her. She’d seen the news reports for the past few days and knew the Zellwegers were in turmoil. She didn’t want Danika to worry about her during such a time.

Besides, Paul was just sitting across from her and hadn’t done anything to her, they hadn’t even spoken to each other.

After hanging up the call, Stephanie placed her phone on the table and carefully picked up her glass to take a shallow sip of water, barely able to suppress her fear.

But no matter how much she tried to stay calm, Paul could still see her fear toward him.

“Are you afraid of me?”

Stephanie unconsciously tightened her grip on the glass and took a while to relax before replying, “No.”

“Really? You look so nervous; it doesn’t seem like you’re unaffected.” Paul sneered.

They hadn’t seen each other for a few days, but Stephanie’s lying skills didn’t seem to have improved at all.

Stephanie put down her glass of water and looked at him.

“What do you want?”

“Can’t I see you when there’s nothing going on? Did you think you could relax just because you came to Bardoff City?”

His intent gaze fixed on Stephanie made her feel like she was suffocating.

Stephanie couldn’t catch her breath under his gaze but still bravely asked, “What have I done to offend you? Why do you have to keep following me?”

She had to flee her hometown with her parents because of him.

What more could he want?

“You’ve offended me in many ways.”
