She knew that he wouldn’t hate her because of it.
“Yeah. You can carry on eating whatever you want.I’ve booked the entire restaurant.”
But now, it seemed highly unnecessary.
Hence, regardless of whether he would succeed, he had to tell her how he felt.
The end result was pretty much what he expected.
Danika had not accepted him.
“I know how you’re feeling, James, but it’s unnecessary. There are so many eligible bachelorettes in Bardoff City. You’ll find one you like,”
Danika comforted him while eating.
James didn’t share the same thought. He drank his red wine and sighed, “It’s not that easy.”
“Believe in yourself. You’ll find her one day.”
James was a brilliant man.
Any girl in Bardoff City would like him.
Danika thought it would be easy for James to find someone who liked him.
As for how much, that would be up to fate.
James stopped talking about it.
He put down his wineglass and asked, “Well, who do you like if not me? Is it still Eustace?”
It seemed that besides him, only Eustace had a close relationship with her.
The other guys were all either rejected or friend-zoned.
Danika said nothing.
When he brought up Eustace, her heart thumped.
That uneasy feeling came back.
Since yesterday, she hadn’t been able to contact him.
It was abnormal.
Even if he hadn’t picked up when she called him, he should have called back once he knew about her calling him.
He wouldn’t be this quiet.
Something was off.
Very off! Danika began eating quickly.
She had to call him again.
James didn’t know what she was thinking, but he noticed she was eating faster.
He looked bewildered.
“Danika?”
“Don’t you worry, James.I’d invite you to my wedding. You’ll know who I like when that happens.”
Danika couldn’t answer his question.
She knew clearly that she probably liked Eustace, but she was too embarrassed to say it out loud.
James had no choice but to let it go.
“Alright.Even if I think he’s unworthy of you, I’ll stand by you if you’re sure about your decision.”
Danika smiled.
It felt nice having someone support her.
Their meal didn’t last for long.
Danika wanted to call Eustace as quickly as possible so she didn’t dawdle. It hurt James’ feelings a lot.
Once Danika got home, she called Eustace on her phone. No matter what, she had to hear his voice that night.
Blocked However, his phone was still turned off.It only made her even more worried. She had no choice but to call Vincent.
It took him a long time to answer, and Danika’s anxiety was through the roof.
“Miss Danika?” Vincent picked up.
He seemed bewildered that Danika was calling him.
Danika didn’t waste any time, asking, “Where’s Eustace? Why isn’t he picking up?”
Vincent was stunned. He looked at Old Mr.Quincey before him, who shook his head.He said, “Mr.Quincey is ina meeting. He’s been very busy lately, so his phone has been with me.It’s probably out of battery.”
“A meeting?” Danika raised her eyebrows.
That was weird.
“When is it going to end?” Danika asked.
She had to hear his voice, or she wouldn’t be at ease.
Vincent didn’t know what to do.
He knew that Danika would wait for Eustace to pick up the call after his meeting, but the problem was that no one would answer.
Eustace was still nowhere to be found.
His silence made Danika even more confused.
“What? Can’t you tell me?”
“No, it’s just that I’m not sure when his meeting will be over. He’s been really busy,”
Vincent repeated, praying that Danika wouldn’t continue pressing the matter.
Danika had already guessed that something had happened to Eustace. She just wasn’t sure what.
“Aren’t you in Bardoff City? Why have you returned to Parrington? Did Eustace tell you to go back?” Danika asked, obviously bewildered.
Vincent felt a headache coming. He no longer cared if what he said was believable.
“There are too many things to handle here.Mr.Quincey couldn’t do them alone, so he told me to come back.” Danika said nothing for a long time.
Vincent’s heart was about to leap out of his throat. He was afraid of Danika persisting; he wasn’t very good at lying.
“Alright.I’ve got it.”
Danika didn’t ask him any more questions, and Vincent sighed in relief. He hung up and looked at Old Mr.Quincey.
“Why aren’t we telling her? She might be able to help us.”
“Those people in Quincey Group are studying Eustace carefully. If they know something has happened to him, there will be chaos. If Danika comes back now, people will start putting the pieces together. So it’s best if she doesn’t know.”
Old Mr.Quincey had a lot on his mind.He didn’t mean to keep Danika in the dark on purpose.
However, if she suddenly returned when Eustace was missing, people would start talking.
Although Old Mr.Quincey’s words made sense, Vincent felt they still had to tell Danika. She was obviously worried about him.
However, he didn’t voice his opinion.
“I’ve already sent people out to keep up the investigations.Mr.Quincey will be alright.”
Old Mr.Quincey nodded.
Then, exhaustion showed itself on his face.
“Keep an eye on the people in the company.Don’t let any suspicious people find an opening.”
“Alright.Take care,” Vincent said.
He was a little worried about Old Mr.Quincey’s state.
The old man said nothing.
He waved, and Vincent turned to leave the ward.
In Bardoff City, Danika didn’t believe anything that Vincent had said. She called Zack.
