Rowena and Jolene’s expressions had long turned ugly.

“Dad, I wanna work in the company too,” Jolene said hastily.

It hadn’t concerned her before, but now she had to do something.

What if Danika won over everyone’s support at the company? Graham looked at Jolene skeptically.

“I thought you said no the last time I asked?”

“I-I didn’t know any better then,”

Jolene stammered.

“But I do now.I want to help you with the family business like Danika.”

Her genuine tone touched Graham’s heart.

“I’m glad to hear that. You’ve grown, Jo.”

He was then about to permit it when Danika said, “I don’t think that’s necessary.”

“What are you saying, Danika? Are you looking down on me?” Jolene fumed.

Danika’s interception had interrupted her father right before he could give his permission.

Danika continued kindly, “I don’t see why you need to struggle as I do.

Why don’t you find a nice man to settle down with?”

Remembering that they had this conversation prior, Graham nodded too.

“Has anyone caught your eye lately, Jo?”

Jolene instantly flushed red, a certain Windsor’s face appearing in mind.

Graham immediately understood what was going on.

“Which family does he come from? I’ll help you two out.”

“Dad—“

Jolene huffed lightly, feeling embarrassed.

“Jolene is still young. If Danika hasn’t married yet, she shouldn’t be in a rush to either,”

Rowena cut in, stopping her daughter from continuing.

She knew who the apple of Jolene’s eye was, but they would have no hold over the Zellweger family if she married him right now.

Jolene shot her mother a look only to find her glaring at her.So, she quietly shut her mouth, still confused as to why her mother wouldn’t let her speak.

Graham gazed at both women.

“You don’t need to worry about Danika.A fine woman like her is sure to garner plenty of suitors. It’s Jo you should worry about.Find a good match for her soon.”

Rowena’s face tinged with the slightest red.

It was obvious Graham meant for Danika to inherit the family business while Jolene would be left marrying off into another family.

While this pissed her off, she remained polite and didn’t let it show.

“I will. But don’t you think she should train in the company before that? It’ll only do her good, and people will respect her when she marries.”

“Very well.”

Graham shrugged, finding reasonable sense in that.It wouldn’t do well for the family if Jolene was laughed at for being uneducated in this regard.

After finishing his meal, he went to his study, leaving the three women around the table.

Rowena’s face immediately turned stormy as she glared at Danika.

“That was your idea, wasn’t it? You want Jolene to marry as soon as possible so you can have the company all to yourself, don’t you?”

She was confident it was Danika’s idea since Graham had never once mentioned it before Danika’s arrival. He never even cared.

“It is.What are you going to do about it?” Danika shrugged.

She couldn’t wait for Rowena to show her true colors so she could finally get some evidence of their evil acts.

You Really Think I’m Afraid?

“Danika Zellweger!”

Rowena fumed, unable to do anything with Graham looking after her.

Danika grinned.

“Yes? Can’t wait to do away with me, can you? C’mon then, you really think I’m afraid?”

Rowena gnashed her teeth.

“Alright.You’ll see!”

With that final hiss, she dragged Jolene back to their rooms.

Danika felt somewhat disappointed being left unharmed.

If Rowena could’ve done something violent to her, she might’ve been able to get Graham to take action.

Unfortunately, she was still cunning and knew she couldn’t touch Danika under the man’s watch.

“Why didn’t you let me talk, Mom? I could’ve told Dad who I liked! ” Jolene whined in her room.

If she had told her father, there was a high chance he would’ve helped the two of them grow closer.

Jolene might even end up marrying James—something she had dreamed of for so long.

Rowena sighed and asked, “Have you ever wondered what would happen to your claim to this family if you married someone else?”

Jolene pouted.

“So what? The Zellwegers can’t compare to the Windsors.”

The Windsors were still more powerful than the Zellwegers.

Plus, Jolene wouldn’t be losing much.

James was an incredibly attractive man, after all.

Rowena massaged her temple.

“The Windsors? You really think James Windsor wants to marry you?”

She was certain that it was just a silly dream, nothing more.

Jolene frowned.

“If it weren’t for Danika seducing him, he wouldn’t be this cold to me!”

“Even you know he doesn’t care.”

Rowena gazed hopelessly at her daughter.

“Your father wouldn’t help arrange anything with the Windsors even if you told him because he knows your worth, and this matchmaking is not worth it.”

There was no way aman as keen as Graham would ever do something to embarrass his family.

Jolene crossed her arms and whined, “So you’re saying I don’t deserve a good man like James.”

“You need to be reasonable, Jo.It wasn’t difficult for you to find a good match when you were still the only child. But that’s not the case anymore,” Rowena said solemnly.

“Even a blind man can see that your father dotes on Danika more, making her the most likely heir to the family. There’s very little chance of you winning against her in this situation.”

“How could a divorced woman compare to me?”

Jolene continued fuming.

“You really think people will still care about that status once she takes over the family?” Rowena asked.

Humans had a fickle nature, but they were predictable.

Almost everyone would cave in front of wealth and power.Jolene paled, suddenly realizing just how big a change Danika had brought into her life. She had imagined she’d lose her father’s favor, at most, not all this.

“What do I do, Mom?”She tugged on her mother’s sleeve.

“Do I just marry?”

She only wanted James Windsor, no one else.
