Paige found solace in crying in River’s arms, releasing her emotions.

“It’s over. It’s all over between Alex and me… River, my heart hurts so much. I’ve lost my child, and I’m left with nothing.”

Feeling sorry for Paige, River patted her back. “It’ll pass, Paige. I’m sure of that.”

After a while, Paige fell asleep in bed under River’s comfort.

River then sat on the sofa, keeping Paige company.

At 8:00 p.m., Noah called River.

River silenced her phone and stepped out of the ward to answer the call.

Before she could speak, Noah’s displeased voice echoed. “Why aren’t you back yet?”

River sighed. “I won’t be going home tonight.”

Sensing something off in River’s tone, Noah asked, “Where are you? What happened?”

River replied honestly, “Paige is at the hospital, and I need to stay with her.”

“Ask Alex to do it,” Noah said, his displeasure evident.

“But Paige broke up with… Alex, River added.

“What?” Noah couldn’t believe it. “Isn’t Paige pregnant? Why did they break up?”

River explained, “Paige aborted the child, and she ended things with Alex. Plus, Alex is out of control today. You should go to him.”

Realizing the gravity of the situation, Noah said, “Okay, I’ll call him now.”

“Sure.”

After ending the call, River returned to the ward.

Although only a few minutes had passed, Paige was already awake, staring out the window.

Concerned, River approached and asked, “Hungry? I’ll get the bodyguard to buy some food. Just eat a bit, okay?”

“I don’t understand, River. Paige shifted the topic. “I don’t understand why I’m infected with this disease.”

Sitting beside the bed, River reassured, “It isn’t your fault. Trust me. I’m certain it’s someone’s scheme.”

Her words brought a bitter smile to Paige’s face. “Daniella has AIDS, but I didn’t have any contact with her. The people I’ve been in touch with aren’t suffering from this.”

River said. “Think about it. Who were you in touch with besides Daniella?”

Paige contemplated it.

Suddenly, she thought of Azure.

She turned to River and said, “Azure… It’s Azure, except for you guys, since I got pregnant. But she never touched me, and she isn’t infected. Was it her?”

Frowning, River said, “I don’t think Azure and Daniella know each other.”

Paige’s eyes grew gloomy. “But I really can’t recall anyone else except her.”

After a brief thought, River suggested, “Let me make a call,”

She called Pete, and he quickly picked up.

“Did you see Daniella meet any woman recently?” she asked.

“Are you asking about Naomi, Ms. Healy?”

“No, anyone else.”

“No,” Pete answered. “She only met Naomi after I started keeping an eye on her, and she didn’t really.

come out of the house these days.”

“Keep watching her. Text me if she meets anyone.”

“Will do.”

After hanging up, River shook her head at Paige, leaving her speechless.

Although Alex didn’t answer Noah’s call, Noah found him at Wild Sides.

Alex sat alone in a private room with numerous wine bottles on the table.

The strong smell of wine and smoke made Noah frown.

Tipsy, Alex looked up at Noah but said nothing, continuing to drink Noah kept his frown and sat down quietly beside Alex.

After finishing a bottle, Alex threw it on the table.

Leaning against the sofa, he hoarsely said, “I’m sure you know everything since you’re here.”

Silently, Noah poured a glass of wine for himself.

“Why don’t you say anything?” Alex questioned.

Noah sipped his wine. “It’s useless for me to force you if you don’t want to tell me.”

Alex snorted. “Was it my divine retribution, Noah? I’ve been fooling women, and now a woman fooled me.”

“Maybe,” Noah said indifferently.

Alex smiled bitterly and remarked, “You don’t know how to comfort people.”

Noah glanced at him. “Did you think Paige cheated on you?”

“Well, yeah!” Alex picked up a bottle of wine again. “My mother was right. Paige didn’t dare to give birth to the child because the child wasn’t mine. That’s why she made an excuse and aborted the child.”

“So, you think I have a bad insight since I’m Paige’s boss,‘ Noah remarked gloomily.

“What does it have to do with you?” Alex shook his head. “No, I had a bad insight.”

Noah continued. “As a boss, I failed to see through Paige’s character and made her the head of the design.

department.”

Stunned, Alex retorted, “You aren’t very perceptive. How could you tell everything?”

Quietly, Noah gave Alex a different look.

After a slight trance, Alex said, “Wait a minute. You’re trying to tell me something. Paige just used this excuse to lie to me, but she has a secret reason, right?

Noah said, “Why didn’t River tell me about the kids‘ true identities until now?”

“Because she’s afraid you’ll snatch away her kids since you’re the father,” Alex answered.

“So, you should give it some thought regarding Paige.” Noah stood up. “You don’t have to drink now.”

“Wait!” Alex stopped Noah.

“Why do you think Paige would abort the child?” Alex asked.

“Who should I ask then?” Noah replied, “River!” Alex said, “I even pushed her down when I got mad today, and I’m a bit shameless to ask her now…”

Coldly, Noah demanded, “You touched River? Are you courting death?!”

Immediately, Alex raised his hands. “I swear I didn’t do it on purpose. I let it get to my head.”

After that, Noah ignored Alex and left the private room.

He fished out his phone and called River the moment he was downstairs.

But River only picked it up after a while. She sounded exhausted. “Hello?”

Noah asked in worry, “Did you fall today? Are you hurt?”

Stunned, River replied, “Did Alex tell you? How’s he doing now?”

“Is Paige with you?”

River glanced at Paige, who was asleep. “Yeah.”

“If I went there late, I’m afraid Alex would be driven to the hospital tonight, too.” He then added, “I won’t ask about Paige’s secret, but you can remind her that keeping everything a secret isn’t a good thing.”

“Paige has her concerns. We shouldn’t meddle in it since she’s made up her mind,” River said.

“I just want to remind her. After all, no one can decide for anyone else, including Paige.”

e words threw River into silence because it was undeniably the truth.

Paige assumed that she had done the best for Alex, but it was a devastating pain for Alex since everything was hidden from him.

“You can remind her again, but she still has the chance to decide for herself. But I have to tell you that Alex will look into this affair, and I’m sure Paige can’t keep everything hidden.”

Pinching her brows, River said, “Okay, I’ll talk it out with Paige tomorrow. Are you going back to Bayview Villa later?”

“Yeah,” Noah said somberly. ‘Did you hurt your body?”

His words made her realize that her coccyx had started aching. ‘I’m okay because I just sat on the floor. Go home earlier and take care of the kids.”

“Of course.”

After hanging up the call, River looked at Paige and found the latter’s eyes fluttering. “I know you’re awake. Just ask me what you want.”

Paige opened her eyes. “How’s… Alex doing?”

“Why do you want to keep everything from him since you care so much about him?‘ River sighed. “I think Noah is right because Alex has the right to know about this.”

“I’ve made up my mind,” Paige declared. “You saw how Alex behaved today. I don’t want him to suffer another blow, and once is enough. Just let him give up.”

“Do you think Alex won’t learn about your situation for the rest of his life? River persisted. “He’ll find out sooner or later.”

“It doesn’t matter even if he does because I’m going abroad for treatment.”

Stunned, River asked, “You’re going abroad? But Noah’s hospital is as good as the ones abroad.”

“I don’t want to stay here and dwell on my lost child since I’ve aborted here. Stop trying to persuade me, River.” Misery crept into Paige’s voice.

Helplessly, River stopped trying because she knew how memories could evoke sadness. “I’ll stop since you’ve made up your mind. When are you leaving?”

“I will tell my parents about this. It’s best if I leave as soon as possible,” Paige replied.
