“Okay, I’ll give you a chance,” Danika said. “We’ll leave in half an hour for your interview. If you’re even one minute late, you’ll return to Orchid Village.”

“Danika! You can’t do this-”

“I’m not joking with you.” Danika looked at her, her expression stoic.

It was then that Felicity realized Danika was quite a scary person. She gritted her teeth, reluctant to obey Danika. Alas, she had no choice. With a huff, she headed back to her room. She had a quick change of clothes and came out to stand in front of Danika, asking, “Are you happy now?”

“Wise decision.” Danika had been serious about sending her back as she figured Felicity wouldn’t work properly even if she found a job for her. It would only be a waste of time. However, she decided to give her a chance after Felicity heeded her instructions and dutifully changed her clothes.

Danika dropped the siblings off at a nanny’s house and brought Felicity to La Vie Jen Rose Designs. She didn’t tell Felicity it was her company as she didn’t want her to start slacking off. She had already talked to Jade to ensure no one else in the company would told Felicity about it.

“This is my friend’s company. Given your education and experience, this is the best job you can find. If you don’t cherish it, there’s nothing else I can do to help you,” Danika said after Felicity’s onboarding process was complete.

Felicity waved her away, not taking her words to heart. “Don’t worry, I’ll do well.”

“I hope so. You’re not a kid anymore, so stop making your father worry about you.” With that, Danika got up and left. However, she didn’t leave the company. Instead, she went to Jade’s office upstairs to see how the dresses turned out. After all, she hoped to launch them to make the name of La Vie Jen Rose known as soon as possible.

When Danika arrived at Jade’s office, Jade got to her feet immediately, saying, “You’ve come at the right time. Take a look at the dresses.” She handed her a turquoise dress, and the color alone was eye-catching.

From Jade’s smile, Danika could tell she was very satisfied with the dress. She studied it carefully. Although the color was fine, the fit was not quite to her expectations. Frowning, she handed it back to Jade. “Have you tried it on?”

“Me? No.” Jade shook her head. “Why? Did you spot a problem with the dress?”

“I don’t think the fit is very good, and I’m worried there might be some issues. You should get a few people to try it on so I can take a closer look.” Since it would be their first batch of designs, Danika wanted to do her best.

Jade didn’t object to her suggestion. She made a phone call, and several people walked into the room. soon after. Danika handed them the dresses. After they tried it on and showed it to Danika, her face fell.

“I thought it looked okay. Why do you seem rather unsatisfied?” Jade asked her after everyone left.

Danika sighed and said, “Don’t you see that the dress only looks good on someone with a good figure?” Among those who tried on the clothes, only the two with better figures looked the best in them while the others looked rather average.

“Of course, while clothes maketh the man, the opposite also stands true. Clothes from any brand would experience the same issue.” Jade didn’t understand why Danika was so concerned. In her opinion, it was not a problem at all.

Danika shook her head and replied, “A good design would be able to accommodate any body shape, and that’s the design I want to create.” If only people with good figures could wear her clothes, what made her brand different from the others? Why would anyone choose her brand?

“So you mean you want to make changes?” Jade asked.

“Yes, I’ll take them back to make some changes. Have others try on the other pieces to see how it looks. If it’s still the same, I’ll work on them again,” Danika replied. She took the issue very seriously.

Jade nodded in response, understanding her concern. “You requested to make this batch of clothes out of silk, but there are very few silk suppliers. So, the price exceeds our budget.”

“It doesn’t matter. Just buy it for the time being. Once we have a stable demand, we’ll raise silkworms ourselves and produce our own silk,” Danika said.

Jade was surprised by her idea. “Wouldn’t that be too much trouble? We don’t have the experience or space for that.”

“Have you forgotten about Orchid Village?” Danika grinned. Once everything was running smoothly, she would get the silk from Orchid Village, which would help the villagers make money.

Jade gave her a thumbs up, saying, “Your foresight is amazing.”

“Exactly, that’s why you shouldn’t worry too much,” Danika said, patting her shoulder. She had full trust in Jade’s abilities.

After discussing work, Jade pulled Danika to sit on the sofa and asked, “Are you serious about bringing Felicity to work here, or did you do it for your uncle’s sake?”

“If she performs well, then yes. I was serious about it. If she doesn’t…” Danika was silent for a moment, then said, “I’ll kick her out.”

Jade expressed concern about David, knowing that Danika was grateful to him. “What about your uncle?” she asked.

Danika replied confidently, “He’ll understand. He’s not unreasonable.”

Danika also warned Jade to avoid being seen by Felicity, explaining that she had told Felicity that the company belonged to a friend but had not revealed that Jade was the general manager. If Felicity knew that Jade was working there, she would start acting up as Jade had once lived in Orchid Village.

Jade reassured Danika that Felicity wouldn’t have the opportunity to come to their floor, which was exclusively for management.

Just as Jade was about to ask how things were going between Danika and Eustace, the office door opened, and Max entered without knocking. He greeted Danika like an old friend and sat on the sofa, indicating that he had been there before.

Danika wondered why Max hadn’t visited her in a long time, but she soon found out why. She smiled mischievously at Jade, “Jade, why didn’t you tell me?”

Jade looked confused and asked, “What do you mean?” When the realization hit her, Jade said, “Don’t think too much. Max and I just have a normal relationship.” She quickly explained that Max had expressed interest in cooperating with the company, which was the only reason they had been in contact.

“Cooperation?” Danika repeated, skeptical, and raised her eyebrows at Max.

He faked a cough and shied away from her gaze. “Yes, my family plans to venture into the fashion industry, so I’m here to gain some insight and experience. I mean, we’ll end up working together sooner or later.”

Danika didn’t believe Max’s words. The Pearsons had shown interest in the fashion industry? No one would ever believe that.

When Danika didn’t buy his story, Max quickly changed the subject and suggested they have lunch. together. Danika didn’t answer. Leaning on the sofa, she turned to Jade. “Are you going, Jade?”

“Of course, let’s go together,” Max answered before Jade could.

Jade frowned as she didn’t want to go. Although Max always invited her, she didn’t think they were close to begin with, so she always refused him. With Danika around, things were different. “I’ll go if Danika is going,” she said.

Danika looked at Max, musing, “So it’s up to me to decide, right?”

“Would you be so kind as to join me for a meal?” Max said with a chuckle, but it sounded forced. He knew exactly what she was thinking.

“My kindness comes at a high price,” Danika replied.

Although Max’s face fell slightly, he forced himself to say, “My family owns many luxury shopping malls across the country. If your brand wants to set up a store in one, I can give you a discount.”

“A discount?” Danika found his offer amusing. “The best location, half the rent.”

Max scoffed, “Impossible!” She was asking for too much!
